Note: It has been speculated the bug causing players to still having this item after the event is due to them being moved from the original placement they were spawned from.
I believe this to be true because I still have the Egg-cellent Fruit Bushes in the accounts where I moved them to different biomes. Additionally, on my accounts where I did not move them, they have disappeared.
