General Section Reorganization
The organization of the general section is a mess in this template - the Disney section is fine. The reason is that furniture with more than one category (most, if not all furniture) is abatrarily put together into one. Some of these categories have changed and some are not included. I think this whole section should be resorted/replaced.
My suggestion is keep it organized essentially the same, but add a few categories - maybe remove one, and reassess all furniture by a 'category priority' list. Essentially we agree on a list order for all categories and every item is listed under whatever category it has with the highest 'priority'. I think it makes sense to order categories by 'least items' to 'most', so the most 'exclusive' categories, which are smaller to begin with, have the highest % of their items included.
Furniture Categories below are ordered by size - I suggest the same 'rank order';
Category | Size | Adjusted[1] |
---|---|---|
Floors | 2 | 2 |
Doors | 9 | 9 |
Ceiling | 22 | 22 |
Rugs | 28 | 28 |
Electronics | 38 | 38 |
Appliance | 41 | |
Windows | 44 | |
Trimmings | 47 | |
Beds | 56 | |
Utilities | 62 | |
Foliage | 84 | |
Lighting | 91 | |
Storage | 107 | |
Art | 117 | |
Seating | 185 | |
Wall | 191 | |
Tables | 282 | |
Miscellaneous | 316 | |
Decor | 520 | |
Essentials | 595 |
- ↑ Size after items in any overlapping categories listed above have been filtered
So to build the list we'd apply the highest sorted category to each piece of furniture to place it in the navbox.
If we had a speadsheet of this furniture with all categories, we'd filter the sheet for 'floors' - add the result under floors, delete from the sheet. Next 'Doors', list them out, delete from the sheet, etc etc down the list. By the time the filter reaches 'Decor' and 'Essentials' those categories should only have a few items left (if any) even though they have over 500 items in them. Everything has been put into 'higher priority' categories.
As it is now - I think crafted furniture, wallpaper, and flooring should not be included (to limit the list bloat as much as possible).
Doing ranking order this way (smallest category to largest) will also distribute things more so there aren't giant grouping of a single category (I think - we'll have to see how these numbers work). This isn't perfect, but it's game accurate and uses logic to sort very clearly. I wanted to discuss this format/approach before doing any work because it will be quite a task to resort this. Does this make sense? ---- Marblemadmax (talk) 02:14, 22 June 2023 (UTC)
