Moonstone is a premium currency, which are available when purchasing a Founder's Pack edition of the game.

They're used to activate Premium Tracks during events, unlocking exclusive rewards. They can also be exchanged for event tokens, which can be used to purchase rewards during event tracks.

Currently they only ways to collect Moonstone are to purchase a Founder's Pack (different editions include different amounts), collect the daily blue chest which spawns somewhere in the world (which contains Moonstone icon.png 10.), or by purchasing using tokens during events.

Gameloft has said in the future Moonstone will be able to be purchased with real money, and that they will also be able to be used to purchase cosmetic items in the in-game store menu that will be added to the game later in early access.

Gameloft has also stated that Moonstone will be used to unlock extra cosmetic items in Disney Dreamlight Valley, and spending real money is not required for the base game.[1]
