Environment refers to the weather and lighting conditions of Dreamlight Valley while outdoors.

Weather

The weather conditions in Dreamlight Valley will occasionally vary from the standard clear weather. Occasionally the weather will be foggy, windy, or rainy.

Rain

The most common type of alternate weather is rain. Occasionally, rain can appear as intense thunderstorms during which the sky will become darker, lightning may appear, and thunder sound effects may occur. Rain in the Frosted Heights appears as snow and thunderstorms appear as thundersnow with lightning and thunder effects. Rain will water any unwatered Crops or Dried Flowers. Villagers may comment on the rain, either in their audio dialogue, their Greetings, or offered Daily Discussion topics. Fugu are only possible to catch while it is raining in the Valley.

Fog

Rarely, Dreamlight Valley may be shrouded in heavy fog during which visibility is severely limited. Fog is a graphical effect only and does not appear to have any gameplay effects.

Time

Main article: Time

Time in Dreamlight Valley is synced with the player's real world local time (after completing a few initial quests).

The game world will mirror the time conditions in the player's world so during the day the sun will be out, and in the evening it will be darker. In Settings, this can be changed with the Offset Time of Day slider on the Controls tab. However, this only affects visuals (e.g. daylight/nighttime) - gameplay such as character/critter/reset schedules, etc. remain synced with the player's local time.

Time-Based Lighting Effects

Game Time Effect
5:00 AM Stars are no longer visible in night sky, automatic and controllable lighting objects turn off
6:00 PM Automatic and controllable lighting objects turn on
8:00 PM Stars become visible in night sky
