Critters in Dreamlight Valley are the small animals which populate the Valley's different regions.

These small animals can be interacted with, and when fed food will offer rewards. Each critter has a favorite food and multiple liked foods, and feeding it favorite or liked foods will trigger a friendship effect that will add it into your collection after multiple successful feedings. Critters also have a chance to drop Memories or valuable items when fed their liked and favorite foods.

Each critter species has a number of color variants, but species area and favorite food are usually the same across all colors of a critter. Different colors appear on different days, so filling in the critter collection will take some time while waiting for each color to appear.

Players can view if the critter has spawned in world by checking the 'Critters' section of the collection menu. If an animal color is unavailable the Schedule will read 'Not here today' when the critter is selected.

After a critter has been added to the collection, it will follow the player as a companion. To be added as a companion, each critter must be fed at least twice (frequently more) with its favorite or liked foods. Each critter can be fed any number of times per day, but only the first successful feeding will drop items and count towards collecting them, so adding them as a companion will take multiple days.

Critter Schedules

Each color of critter follows a specific schedule - only appearing during certain times on specific days of the week. Sundays are the best day for critter variety, as almost all color variants have a chance to spawn in either the morning or afternoon. Some rare critter colors only spawn on one specific day of the week for a window of only six hours.

Dreamlight and Memories

Feeding critters counts towards the rotating Dreamlight Duty "Feed a Critter", and multiple Foraging Dreamlight Achievements: "Feed The {Critter}s Their Favorite Food" (x1, x3, x10), and "Feed the {Critter}s" (x1, x7, x25, x40, x90). There are 15 Memories consisting of 10 Memory Pieces each that can only be found by feeding critters.
