Watering Harvesting
|
Gardening is an activity which involves planting seeds, watering them using the Royal Watering Can, and harvesting them to collect vegetables and grains. It is a primary method of collecting many ingredients and earning income. The Player can Hang Out with a Villager assigned the Gardening Role to increase the number of crops collected when harvesting.
Crops can be cooked into meals, consumed to regain Energy, sold for Star Coins, or gifted to villagers to raise Friendship. It is also a required method to collect specific Memories and some resources like Rich Soil.
WALL-E's Garden is an important unlock to support gardening. It will provide free vegetables daily without needing to plant and water them, but just as importantly will provide up to a 20% reduction in energy required for planting and watering when farming which will allow more actions without needing to restore energy using food.
Digging & Planting
Seeds are sold in each biome in the valley at Goofy's Stall. As more areas are unlocked and more stalls are repaired a larger variety of seeds will be available to purchase.
To plant seeds first dig a hole using the Shovel. After digging, interact with the hole to bring up available seeds in inventory which can be planted. Selecting a seed and holding down the action button will plant multiples of that same seed in dug holes which are beside each other. So it's most efficient to dig holes first in the area which will have the crops, then plant all at once.
Each seed has a native biome. This is usually the biome where the seed & ingredient is sold at Goofy's Stall. When planting there is a green arrow which appears next to the seed icon which denotes it's being planted in its native biome. Crops native biome is listed in the collection menu, and crops grown in their native biome will grow 10% faster.
Each hole dug will consume 50 energy, and this can be reduced by up to 20% to 40 energy by upgrading WALL-E's Garden. Planting consumes 25 energy, reduced by up to 20% to 20 energy by WALL-E's Garden.
Watering
After planting seeds plants will appear dry and wilted. They must be watered using the Royal Watering Can before they'll start to grow. Rain will also water crops.
Each plant has a different amount of time before it will be ready for harvest. Some plants require watering at points in their growth cycle to continue, or they will pause growing until watered. Plants that need water can be identified because they'll be brown and wilted.
Growth Elixirs can be applied to the watering can to make watered crops instantly available for harvest. There are two types of these enchantments: Miracle Growth Elixir (good for 10 waterings) and
Even More Miraculous Growth Elixir (good for 25 waterings).
When watering, it's best to group planted crops close together to allow the watering can to reach the most plants with one action. Each watering will consume 25 energy.
Harvesting
Once fully grown crops can be harvested by interacting with them. By holding down the harvest button multiple crops in a row can be collected.
When harvesting there are two potential harvest events which can trigger.
Critical Harvest
- Multiple crops of the same type will spread out in an area on the ground with a glowing red aura, rather than the standard blue. These can be collected by walking over them, and will disappear after a short time. Eight (8) possible items to collect are produced in total - one from the initial harvest, and 7 that are scattered in the immediate area.
Golden Harvest
- The harvested crop will shine golden for a short time. During the time it is glowing it can be harvested over and over with a faster harvest animation to quickly collect multiples of a crop.
Crops gathered during either a Critical Harvest or a Golden Harvest will count toward any task progress which tracks harvesting.
There's a rare chance when harvesting any crop that Rich Soil will drop, which is a rare resource used to craft growth elixirs. It's also a requirement of the later-game quest Nature & Nurture. By using growth elixirs before watering, crops can be made immediately available for harvest without needing to wait for them to grow.
Villager Companions
- Main Article: Bonuses
When reaching level 2 Friendship with a Villager they can be assigned a Role. Villagers who have been assigned the Gardening Role will gain extra Friendship for each planting, watering, or harvest, and have a chance to drop extra crops while hanging out with them. This can trigger from crops collected during Golden Harvests as well. Extra crops they produce will be dropped on the ground, and can be picked up by running over them.
A Gardening Training Manual can be crafted using a Crafting Station. After reaching level 10 friendship with a Villager, gifting it to them will re-assign their role to Gardening.
Each level of friendship increases the rate which crops will drop. It is not only effective for leveling up Friendship with these characters, but extremely helpful for offering bonus crops when harvesting. Make sure to always bring a Gardening companion along when gardening!

Dreamlight and Memories
There are two rotating Dreamlight Duties directly related to Gardening: "Harvest 5 Vegetables" and "Plant 5 Vegetables". Gardening comprises its own tab of Dreamlight Achievements. There are 19 Memories consisting of 10 Memory Pieces each that can only be found by gardening or foraging (the Harvest action), though the Collection menu only explicitly indicates gardening.
