Daily Discussions

Revision as of 02:18, 26 March 2023 by Lizz (talk | contribs) (→‎Olaf: TODOResponseToAnswerSummer. Also, I'm fairly positive that the "Melting Snow" response has a "-2" friendship impact (whatever that means))

Daily Discussions are conversations that can be had once a day with Villagers in the Valley. One conversation prompt at a time will randomly be offered to select whenever interacting with a Villager. Leaving the interaction and returning may cause a new topic to appear, but not all topics seem to shuffle on any given day, or are available under all circumstances (e.g. some are only available during rain, or after certain quest completions). Only one Daily Discussion can be had with each Villager per day, and the conversation prompt will disappear until the daily reset at 5:00 am local time.

Having a discussion counts towards the rotating Dreamlight Duty "Have a daily discussion.", and the Friendship Dreamlight Achievements "Have Daily Discussions!" (x1, x50, x100, x500, x1000).

The Sword in the Stone

Merlin

Did you hate the Middle Ages?

It's rather pleasant to be living in an era with so many modern conveniences.

Magic is useful, but pales before the wonder of indoor plumbing.

Tell me, Player, what is your favorite invention?

→  Airplanes.

Magnificent machines! Ahh, to fly through the sky like a bird without all those itchy feathers.

→  I agree with you... indoor plumbing.

It's a crowd pleaser, that is certain.

→  Cell phones.

Yes, those little connected boxes. They do seem more useful than pigeons... And unlike owls, they rarely talk back.

Do you have a question?

Player, do you know the distinction between Dark and Light Magic?

→  I do.

So, you already understand the nature of magic? Very good.

→  I don't.
It's a simple difference, really. Light Magic is performed for others.
Dark Magic is performed for yourself. Dark Magic is not necessarily evil, but is more easily turned to evil.

Now tell me: Which calls to you? Light Magic or Dark Magic?

→  Light Magic.

Light Magic. An altruistic choice. And one that will serve you well in your quest to restore the Valley.

→  Dark Magic.

Dark Magic can be powerful and compelling, but must be managed carefully.

→  Both.

A wise answer. Balance is difficult, but important.

Do you have time to talk?

I can tell by the look on your face that you have a question for me, Player. Well, what is it?

→  Why do you wear a blue robe and pointy hat?
Why, it's what I've always worn since I was a young lad. And I do suppose it helps people understand that I'm a wizard.
Part of being a wizard is managing people's expectations, you know.
That may even be the most important part.
→  How do you do magic?
There's no simple answer to that. But I can say that it takes years of study.
One must understand the nature of...well, nature! And how to influence it.
That is the secret to true power...knowledge.
→  How old are you?

As old as my tongue and just a bit older than my teeth.

Got any advice? [Added 1.3]

Player, have you noticed all the hidden treasures scattered about the Village?

Someone has left countless chest containing all sorts of valuable things. Vestments, furnishings, money...

It's quite a mystery as to who might have left them.

→  Maybe they're from before the Forgetting?
That would be the most logical assumption, yes.
Of course, just because something's logical doesn't mean it works that way here.
→  Maybe they just... appeared there.

An intriguing suggestion. Perhaps the Valley itself is trying to provide us with gifts.

In any case, some of the treasures are better hidden than others.

I suggest making a thorough investigation of the Valley. You never know where you might find something useful.

Have you ever time-traveled?

I have traveled extensively through time, Player. I've visited the past, and I remember a great deal of the future.

→  That sounds confusing.

Well, it gives me a unique perspective. And makes me an extremely valuable advisor.

→  That sounds useful.

Well, it gives me a unique perspective. And makes me an extremely valuable advisor.

→  Can I learn to time travel?

Player, I do not believe in impossibility. So I will say merely that it is improbable.

Let's do something fun!

Player... Now, I know you're not a wizard, but have you ever heard of a Wizards' Duel?

→  Yes.
Then you know how it works.
My last bout with Madam Mim... well, it... it was a bit of a grudge match, you might say. We needn't be so brutal.
→  No.
Well, it's a classic battle of wits, where each player takes turns changing into different things.
The goal is to defeat the other player's form!

Since you can't change forms, we'll just say the names of what we WOULD change into. And let's stick to animals, shall we?

Here, I'll start... I choose the form of a tortoise!

→  Raccoon.
A reasonable choice... A raccoon might be able to prey on a young tortoise.
But I assure you I am an old, venerable tortoise and quite immune to your raccoon attacks.
  I win this duel.
→  Rabbit.
A rabbit? Do you intend to challenge tortoise-me to a race?
Well, I know a fable that will tell you how that goes. Heh-heh. I win.
→   Elephant
player

Elephant.

Seems a bit extreme, but I suppose in a contest of brawn an elephant would win against a tortoise.

Then I shall become a mouse and terrify your elephant.

→   Cat.
player

Cat.

Yes, that is a classic response. Cat catches mouse.

Then I will make the classic response in turn and transform into a dog.

→  Wolf.

Hmph. Wolf and dog. One is a descendant of the other, so the forms are quite close. I shall declare this contest a draw.

→  Human.
Very clever! Humans are indeed animals. And they've domesticated almost every dog on the planet!
An astute response. I concede the game to you, Player. You win!
→  Dragon.
Ah! No creatures of legend! That is against the rules... I did tell you that part, didn't I?
Well either way, there is no rule-bound response to dragon, so our little contest is over.
→  Dog.

Hmph! Any mouse worth his salt can evade a dog. No, I think I've won this one.

→  Robot.

A robot is not an animal. I win by default!

Something wrong? [Added 1.3]

Now, I must say, something is perplexing me, Player.

Clearly, not all the laws of physics apply here in Dreamlight Valley.

From the way you're able to cross between worlds, it appears space and time here are merely strong suggestions... not ironclad laws.

Yet other things remain immutable. Take gravity, for instance. What goes up still invariably comes down!

→  I wish it didn't. I'd love to fly.
Yes, I imagine it's an intriguing possibility for you.
But for now, I'm afraid you'll have to content yourself with exploring the mysteries of the Valley down here on the ground.
→  It's weird. Maybe we should run some tests.
  Ah-ha! A fine idea indeed.
Er... just don't throw anything too valuable from anywhere too high, all right?
→  Maybe the laws of physics only work if we believe they do.
  A fascinating idea!
Perhaps if we could get all the Villagers to try NOT to follow the law of gravity anymore, it would disappear!
No, no, no. That's preposterous. How would that even be possible? Never mind me.

In any case, it seems that we are bound together by something much greater than gravity. I've a theory that it's friendship, but I'm still investigating.

  • Something you wanted to ask? [Added 1.3]
Something you wanted to ask? [Added 1.3]

What small discoveries will you make today, Player?

→   Well, I'm talking to you.

Indeed! A conversation can be full of discoveries. What will we say? What will we think?

Where might our inquiry lead us?

→  Hopefully somewhere useful.
Practical conversations, with purpose and reason, are quite valuable.
But there are many discoveries to be found in the free flow of thought as well.
→  Probably just around in circles.

Well, when you don't know exactly where you're going, sometimes you get there faster going in circles instead of keeping to a straight line.

→  You make talking to someone sound more exciting than it is...

Everything can be exciting with the correct perspective.

→   I don't know.

How exciting! Not knowing quite what will happen next. The thrill of discovery!

→  Yeah!

TODOResponseToAnswerYeahUncertainty

→  Maybe?

Ahh... you respond to uncertainty with more uncertainty. A perfectly appropriate response.

→  It actually makes me nervous.
Well, being anxious is perfectly understandable. Just don't let it thwart your curiosity.
One must be ready for uncertainty before one can thrive in it.
→   Small discoveries? What do you mean?

Well, anything can be an opportunity for discovery, if you have the proper attitude.

For example, a trip to Goofy's Stall. Who knows what one will discover in his inventory today?

→  That doesn't sound very exciting.
Perhaps not on an ordinary day. But what if today is extraordinary?
  The choice is yours.
→  EPIC APPLE VS. PEAR DILEMMA.

Goodness, you're certainly getting into the spirit of things.

→  Being around Goofy is always full of surprises.
Ah, yes. His boundless kindness, his unique wisdom...
  ...and his occasional prodigious clumsiness...
Well, there's no one quite like Goofy, is there?
Time for another philosophical question!

Have you ever considered being a squirrel?

→  Sounds fun!
Well, I suppose the leaping about can be a bit fun at first, but a squirrel's life is hazardous.
  Downright dangerous, even!
→  Sounds dangerous.
Indeed it is! The squirrel is a tiny creature with enormous problems!
How it's survive throughout the ages is one of nature's big mysteries.
→  Can you do that?
I could. Though I won't; not now. We have other things to do.
But I still encourage you to CONSIDER being a squirrel. Think about it...
The squirrel's life is hazardous. Downright dangerous!

Almost all the world is larger than the creature, and a good portion wants to eat it!

Now, what do you think we can learn from a squirrel?

→  Empathy for the vulnerable.

Yes, yes. That is a noble lesson to learn. What a promising thought.

→  How to survive.

A practical and important lesson indeed. When life is hard, we must find ways to carry on.

→  Walnuts are good.

I suppose that's technically true, but not really what I was driving at.

What are you doing today? [Added 1.3]

Player, just in time! I've spent the morning making a close study of the Night Thorns around the Village.

player

What kind of a study?

Well, I enchanted one so it would get up and walk around.

→  Uh... why?

[continue to next line]

→  How fascinating!

[continue to next line]

→  You WHAT?!

[continue to next line]

I wanted to understand its motivations. With the gift of locomotion we can see what it does when not tied to the earth. What it CHOOSES to do.

player

... And what did it do?

Leapt across the table and assailed me, of course.

Nasty things. Evidently they really do harbor ill intent towards us.

→  Merlin! You could have been hurt!

[continue to next line]

→  It's amazing the things you'll do in the pursuit of knowledge.

[continue to next line]

Oh, a little danger is worth it, as long as we learn something.

player

And what did we learn...?

Not to enchant Night Thorns, of course.

What's on your mind? [Added 1.3]

Player, have you spent much time feeding the creatures around the Valley?

→  Oh yes!
Wonderful! We must remember that the Valley has quite a peculiar ecosystem.
The tiniest creatures are of vital importance... even if we don't understand how yet.
→  A little bit. But I should do it more.
Well, heed my advice. I've been observing them closely for quite some time.
Some of these small animals are timid, while others are more friendly and playful.
If you're ever in doubt... just stand utterly still and observe them.
In fact, that's not terrible advice for life in general...
→  Every time I get close, they run or hide!
Well, heed my advice. I've been observing them closely for quite some time.
Some of these small animals are timid, while others are more friendly and playful.
If you're ever in doubt... just stand utterly still and observe them.
In fact, that's not terrible advice for life in general...
You had a question?

Tell me, Player... what do you think is the most important quality for being a good leader?

→  Pulling a sword from a stone.

Heh-heh. Yes, I see you know how to play to your audience. But Arthur could never have done that if he didn't inherently have the quality of compassion!

→  Taking care of people.

Yes! That is the very essence of leadership! Caring for the people that you lead.

→   Being awesome.

Awesome? Hmph. But for what purpose are you being "awesome"?

→  To do good.

Yes! That is the very essence of leadership! Having a true purpose to care for the people that you lead.

→  To feel awesome.

You, my friend, have a lot to learn.

WALL-E

WALL-E

Do you have a question?

Yoo-hoo! Uhh...

player

What is it, WALL-E? You have a question?

player

Hmm. He's pointing at...

→   Me.
player

Do you want to know more about me, WALL-E?

  • whistles*
player

What should I tell you...

→  I'm a human! You've met humans before.

  • whistles* Wow!
→  I'm in charge of the Valley.

Whoa!

→  I like long walks on the beach.

Whoa!

→   My hands.
player

Those are my hands, WALL-E.

Hmmm...

player

Yeah, they're not like yours.

→  Mine aren't made of metal.

Whoa!

→  Look how many fingers I have!

Whoa!

→  These little things are called fingernails.

Whoa!

→   My clothes.
player

These are my clothes, WALL-E.

Huh?

player

How do I explain clothes...?

→  They protect my body.

Whoa!

→  They keep me warm.

Whoa!

→  They're super stylish.

Whoa!

Feeling bored? [Added 1.3]

Di-rec-tive?

player

You're looking for something to do?

Ee-ah.

player

Oh? Are you bored? Can you even get bored?

  • sigh*
player

Hm... maybe you could...

→  ...do some gardening.

Oh!

→  ...mine some rocks.

Oh!

→   ...sit back and relax.

Huh?

player

Oh... uh... you know. Relax. Like...

→  ...listen to music.

Da-da-da-da-da-da-dah-dah-dah!

→  ...read a book.

Oooh!

→   ...go for a walk.

Huh?

player

Oh. I guess you don't "walk." Uh, go for a "roll"?

WALL-E!

Got something to show me?

Oh! Oh!

player

WALL-E's showing me something. It's a...

→   Sandwich.
player

That's a sandwich, WALL-E. Where did you find that?!

Uhh...

player

A sandwich is...

→  A kind of food. Like what Remy makes.

Ooh!

→  Not really relevant to you.

Ooh!

→   Delicious! Is this pastrami?

Huh...?

player

Right... you wouldn't know what pastrami is. Don't worry about it.

→   Light Bulb.
player

That's a light bulb, WALL-E. Did you unscrew that from somewhere...?

  • whistles*
player

A light bulb is...

→  A little round thing that gives off light.

Ooh!

→  Something that uses power. Like you!

Ooh!

→  Delicate. Be careful with it!

Ooh!

→   Leaf.
player

That's a leaf, WALL-E. A very nice leaf.

Huh?

player

Well, a leaf is...

→  Very common in the forest.

Ooh!

→  A tiny part of a tree.

Ooh!

→  Like a tree's hair. Only it all falls out once a year.

Ooh!

How are you?

WALL-E!

→   I don't know what you're saying!

WALL-E! WALL-E! WALL-E!

→  What other words do you know?
  Uhh...
  EVE-ah!
  Directive!
→  What means "yes"?

  • whistles*
→  How do you say "no"?

No.

player

We'll continue this another time...

→  But it's a start.

Whoopee!

→  I'll never understand you.

Aww...

→   I'm gonna guess what you're saying!

  • whistles*
→  You want to be best friends!

Whoopee!

→  You want to go swimming!

...

→  It was Belle in the library with a candlestick!

Huh?!

[Response to previous question]

→  I got it!

Whoopee!

→  This could use more work at another time.

Aww...

→   I understand completely.

Whoa!

→  I agree!

Whoopee!

→  Sorry, but you're wrong.

Aww...

How's it going? [Added 1.3]

Whoopee!

→  I love seeing you so happy!

[continue to next line]

→  Whoa! Calm down.

[continue to next line]

→  What's got you so excited?

[continue to next line]

Oh. Oh. Oh!

player

Hm, you're gesturing towards some crops...

player

Oh! Did you try to harvest them and got a lot more than usual?

Ta-da!

player

Yeah, that happens sometimes. I think it all just depends on luck.

Is everything okay?

Aww...

player

WALL-E looks a little sad today. I should try to cheer him up.

player

Hey! Hey, WALL-E!

Huh?

→   You're adorable!
player

You're adorable!

Awww!

player

He's looking a little happier. What else can I say?

→  Your work is important!

Oh... Whoopee!

→  You're very lovable!

Oh... Whoopee!

→  Your collections are awesome!

Oh... Whoopee!

player

I think I cheered him up!

→  You're doing a great job!

[no answer, dialogue closes]

→  You're great at compacting trash!

[no answer, dialogue closes]

Is there something you need?

Yoo-hoo! Uhh...

player

What is it, WALL-E? You have a question?

player

Hmm. He's pointing at a...

→   Bird.
player

That's a bird, WALL-E.

Huh?!

player

Well, a bird is...

→  A small animal that flies.

Ooh!

→  A pretty tuft of feathers.

Ooh!

→  Like a tiny dinosaur.

Ooh!

→   Squirrel.
player

That's a squirrel, WALL-E.

Huh?!

player

Well, a squirrel is...

→  A small mammal that climbs trees.

Ooh!

→  A cute critter that eats nuts.

Ooh!

→  Like Remy but with a bushy tail and less cooking experience.

Ooh!

→   Tree.
player

That's a tree, WALL-E.

Huh?!

player

Well, a tree is...

→  A big plant that's been growing for a long time.

Ooh!

→  A telephone pole, but you don't have to build it.

Ooh!

→  Where wooden things come from.

Ooh!

Let's try to speak again!

WALL-E.

player

Let's try one WALL-E for yes and two WALL-E's for no.

→   Do you like the Village?
player

Do you like the Village?

WALL-E!

player

One WALL-E means "YES"! So, do you prefer...

→   Fishing?
player

Fishing?

WALL-E, WALL-E!

→   Gardening?
player

Gardening?

WALL-E!

→   Meeting new people?
player

Meeting new people?

Oh... WALL-E?

→   Do you miss your world?
player

Do you miss your world?

EVE-ah...

player

Is EVE...

→   Your friend?
player

Your friend?

WALL-E!

player

She IS your friend!

→   Another robot?
player

Another robot?

WALL-E!

player

She IS another robot!

→   Would you like to go on adventures with me?
player

Would you like to go on adventures with me?

WALL-E, WALL-E.

player

Two WALL-E's mean "no"! Is it because...

→   You're more of a stay-at-home robot?
player

You're more of a stay-at-home robot?

WALL-E!

player

You're a stay-at-home robot!

→   You're afraid of me?
player

You're afraid of me?

WALL-E, WALL-E!

player

You're not afraid of me!

→  I finally understand you!

Whoopee!

→  Thank you for playing along!

Whoopee!

  • What's up? [at night] [Added 1.3?]
What's up? [at night] [Added 1.3?]

Ahh... ooh... Whoo!

player

What's got you so excited, WALL-E?

Ah... ah... ah!

player

The sky...? Oh, the stars!

player

You're looking at all the constellations up there. [TODO-VERIFY]

WALL-E!

→  They're beautiful.

TODOResponseToConstellationsBeautiful

→  They're so cool.

TODOResponseToConstellationsSoCool

→  Eh, they're just big balls of gas in the sky.

[no answer, dialogue closes]

You look happy today!

Da dada...da da da!

player

WALL-E's singing and doing a little dance! I should...

→  Join him!
player

[continue to next line]

→  Applaud!
player

[continue to next line]

→  Just watch.
player

[continue to next line]

Da da dada da...

→  Da de-da-da!

Da de da do de-da dah doo-day!

→  Ba dum dum dum!

Da de da do de-da dah doo-day!

→   Nice moves, WALL-E!

Oh! Bzzzzz-bzzzzz-bzzzzz.

player

Oh no! I made him bashful all of a sudden. It's okay, WALL-E. I was just excited; I wasn't yelling at you.

Whew! ... Da de da do de-da dah doo-day!

You want to tell me something?

Yoo-hoo! WALL-E!

player

What's that, WALL-E? Oh, it's a toaster.

Huh? ... Ooh! Ooh!

player

Yeah, those are the dials. You turn them to set how toasted you want your toast.

player

Wait. You probably don't know what toast is. Toast is bread that you cook and then eat.

Uhh...

player

Bread is human food. It gives us energy.

→   Like you get energy from the sun!
player

Ooh!

Ta-da!

→  It's great with jam or peanut butter.

Whoa!

→  It's an essential part of any good sandwich.

Whoa!

Do you have a question, Ariel?

You're a human, Player. What would you say your favorite human thing is?

→   Probably fire.

Before I saw it, I was so curious about it. I know it can be helpful and also hurtful. What do you like about it?

→  It's warm and cozy.

Mmm. That does sound nice.

→  It's bright and beautiful.

It is! And it's warm too.

→  It's useful.

Yes! It provides light and heat, and I know humans like to cook their food over it.

If I'm on land when it gets cold, I like being near a warm fire.

→   Shoes are nice.

Oh. When I wore them, they pinched a little. Why do you like shoes so much?

→  They protect my feet.

Oh, I guess that makes sense. The water doesn't hurt my feet, but I suppose there are things on land that would if I didn't wear shoes.

→  They make me taller.

Really?! I didn't know shoes could do that.

→  Mine look cool.

Let me see... Oh, you're right. Your shoes are so neat!

→  It's hard to choose just one!

I would have trouble choosing, too. But please do try. At least tell me one you like a lot. [reprompt]

Do you have anything on your mind? [Added 1.3]

Oh, Player, I was wondering... have you made friends with any of the turtles around Dazzle Beach?

→  It seems to take a lot of patience.
Well, they are very shy. But if you wait quietly for them, they'll poke their heads out of their shells...
And then you can give them some Seaweed and make a new friend!
→  Remind me...
The turtles around here are very shy. When they see someone they don't know, they head right back into their shells. You have to wait until they come back out.
Then you can give them some Seaweed to eat.
And that's how you make a new friend!
→  I have no idea. Please help me.
Oh, don't worry. It's really easy. You just need to remember a few things.
The turtles around here are very shy. When they see someone they don't know, they head right back into their shells. You have to wait until they come back out.
Then you can give them some Seaweed to eat.
And that's how you make a new friend!
Do you like living here?

I've been learning so much more about human stuff since I came to this Village!

Why don't you give me a test?! Tell me the name of a human object, and I'll tell you what it's used for.

→  Fork.
Oh, that one's easy! It's for combing your hair.
And I believe the more common term for "fork" is "dinglehopper."
→  Shoes.
Oh, shoes. Those are the things humans put on their feet for some reason.
I'm not completely sure why. They already have feet for walking; why do they need shoes?

Now it's my turn. I'll tell you the name of a human object, and you tell me what it does.

Do you know what a snarfblatt is?

→  A fish.
No, silly! A snarfblatt is a musical instrument. You use it to make music.
It's a little tricky to play, though.
→  A shark.
No, silly! A snarfblatt is a musical instrument. You use it to make music.
It's a little tricky to play, though.
→  A trumpet.

That's right! Wow, you really know your human stuff.

Do you need any help?

Player, I want to get a present for Eric. But I could use your advice. What sorts of things would a human man like?

→  Something from under the sea?

Do you think so? He IS very curious about my world. Almost as curious as I am about his! Maybe I could find him a beautiful shell. Or sea glass!

→  Something from your collection?
But my collection is all things from the human world. He already has so much of that stuff. Unless...
Maybe he would like something familiar if it's picked out just for him.
I'll take a look at the gizmos in my collection and see if any of them are shiny enough.
→  Eric likes your singing.

That's true. Maybe my present can be singing for him! Oh, thank you, Player! That's just what I'll do.

Have you got a question?

Player, I have a very important question for you. What's your favorite thing to do on land?

→  Dance.

Oh, we dance underwater too! But it must be so much harder when you have to stay connected to the floor.

→  Ski.
Oh, Merlin told me about skiing!
You put sticks on your feet and throw yourself down a mountain.
That sounds so exciting! I'd love to try it someday.
→  Fly kites.

Oh, I've seen those! They're almost like the sail of a boat, but in the sky.

There are so many interesting things to do on land.

→  Yeah, it can be pretty cool.

Thank you for telling me about it!

→  I think the sea is better.

  • giggle* I know a crab who agrees with you.
→  I think they're both amazing in their own ways.

I guess you're right. There are lots of fantastic things about both of them.

How is your collection going?

Since I can go on land whenever I'd like now, I want to find things to add to my collection. What do you think I should start looking for?

→  Stamps?
Hmm. Stamps get sticky when they're wet, right? I'll have to make sure I keep them very dry.
I'll find a special place in my House for them.
→  Hats?
Ooh, that would be fun! I've already seen so many different kind of hats; there must be even more.
And I could learn their names! I really want to know what a "fascinator" is.
→  Thingamabobs?

I already have twenty thingamabobs. I'd really like to collect something different.

I've got a question for you!

Hello, Player. Do you have a question for me?

→  How many merpeople are there?

Oh my gosh, I don't know! Just in Atlantica, there's more than I can count.

→  Do you get tired swimming all the time?

Well, I do get tired. But I'm not sure if it's because I'm swimming or just because I've been doing a lot.

→  What's the biggest fish you've ever seen?

Well, I've seen some pretty big whales. But fish... I guess I'd have to say a whale shark, which is actually a fish, not a whale. Isn't that confusing?

Is living here any fun? [Added 1.3]

It's amazing! I love how there's always something new to discover.

Every time I go to a different part of the Village, I see something I haven't seen before.

A chest. A piece of paper on the ground. A patch of soil that's hiding some secret...

→  I know! Every day's an adventure.

I wonder what we'll each find today.

→  Yeah, but what makes them appear?
Well, if I had to guess...
  I'd say it's your magic.
→  What?! I've never noticed!
Oh, Player, you have to explore the Valley more!
There are so many things to discover and secrets to uncover. It's really fun. You'll see.
  • Let's talk about you.
Let's talk about you.

I have an idea, Player! Let's see how much we know about each other.

It can be a game! I'll start...

I'm the daughter of the king of the ocean. What's my father's name?

→  King Triton.

That's right! Okay, the next question is a little more difficult...

→  Poseidon.
No. My father's name is King Triton.
Maybe you know the answer to this question: How many sisters do I have?
→  The Tuna King.

  • giggle* I'm not a tuna, Player. I'm a mermaid. My father's name is King Triton.
Maybe you know the answer to this question: How many sisters do I have?

How many sisters do I have?

→  You're an only child.
No, I have six older sisters: Aquata, Andrina, Arista, Attina, Adella and Alana. But that was a tough one.
I promise the next question is easier!
→  You have six sisters.
Yes! I have six older sisters: Aquata, Andrina, Arista, Attina, Adella and Alana.
Wow, you won't have any problem with the next question!
→  You have two brothers: Flounder and Sebastian.
No, Flounder and Sebastian are my friends. I have six older sisters: Aquata, Andrina, Arista, Attina, Adella and Alana.
I promise the next question is easier!

I have a collection of gizmos and thingamabobs and all sorts of stuff. Do you know what the things in my collection have in common?

→  They are things found on land.

  • [1/3, 2/3] You're right! I think human stuff is very interesting.
  • [3/3] You're right again! I think human stuff is very interesting.
→  They're coral.

No, there's a lot of coral in the ocean. It would kind of be like collecting sand. I collect human stuff. I think it's very interesting.

→  Shark teeth, of course.

Oh no! That would be too dangerous. I collect human stuff. I think it's very interesting.

  • [0/3] Well, you've only gotten one answer right so far, but let's see how you do on the next one.
  • [1/3] You only got one answer right so far, but let's see how you do on the next one.
  • [2/3] Okay, two out of three is very good! Let's see if you can answer the next question!
  • [3/3] Okay, let's see if you can answer the next question...

What did Ursula want from me when I asked her to give me human legs?

→  Your fins.

  • [0/4] Oh, I'm sorry, Player. She did give me legs, but she asked for my voice in return.
Now there's only one question left. What's the name of the human I saved from drowning?
  • [1/4, 2/4] Oh, I'm sorry, Player. She did give me legs, but she asked for my voice in return. Are you ready for the next one?
What's the name of the human I saved from drowning?
  • [3/4] Oh, I'm sorry, Player. She did give me legs, but she asked for my voice in return. Are you ready for the next one?
What's the name of the human I saved from drowning?
What's the name of the human I saved from drowning? [asks same question twice]
→  Your father's trident.

  • [0/4] I'm sorry. She wanted my voice.
Now there's only one question left. What's the name of the human I saved from drowning? [TODO-VERIFY]
  • [1/4, 2/4] - TODO
  • [3/4] - TODO
→  Your voice!

  • [1/4] You got it! That's one right answer so far. Let's see if you can get this last one...
  • [2/4, 3/4] Oh my gosh, you're right! Now there's only one question left...
  • [4/4] Oh my gosh, you've gotten every answer right! Now let's see if you know this very last one...

[Response to previous question]

→  Flotsam.

No. That's the name of one of Ursula's horrible eels. I saved Prince Eric.

→  Eric.

Yes! He got hurt saving his dog during a storm. I'm so glad I was there to help.

→  Max.

No. You're thinking of his dog. I saved Prince Eric.

  • [0/5 correct] Gosh, that wasn't a very big success, was it? I hope we get to know each other better.
  • [1/5 correct] Well, you only knew one thing about me, but I hope we get to know each other better!
  • [2/5 correct] You do know some things about me! I hope you had fun.
  • [3/5, 4/5 correct] Gosh, you really know a lot about me! I'm glad that we're becoming such good friends.
  • [5/5 correct] That's amazing! You know so much about me. That makes me very happy.

Let's talk again soon! I can't wait to learn more about you.

Tell me about your hobbies.

I love to sing. And Sebastian says I'm pretty good at it. Do you like to sing?

→   Yes.

That's fantastic! Tell me, what's your favorite kind of song?

→  Love songs.
Oh, I like love songs too. I used to think they were just pretty.
But ever since I met Eric, I understand them so much better.
→  Dance songs.

Oh, I love those too! Sebastian is really good at writing dance songs. He can get the whole ocean dancing!

→  Rock anthems.

Oh, I don't think I've ever heard of those. They must be songs that rockfish sing...

→   No.

Oh. Well, do you enjoy listening to singing?

→  No.
Oh, I understand. Well, I hope you have other things that you enjoy. Like maybe... dancing or art.
I saw a puppet show once. Maybe that's it! Maybe you love puppet shows!
→  Badly.
Oh, I don't think anyone truly sings badly if they enjoy it.
That's the most important thing about singing. Having fun!
What are you thinking about?

I've always been so curious about the human world. And I just realized...

You might be curious about my underwater world!

Is there anything you'd like me to tell you about?

→  What's the deepest you've ever dived?

Well, I've explored an underwater trench. It was very dark and very cold.

→  What's it like being friends with fish?

I guess it's the same as being friends with humans. All fish are different but most of them are friendly.

→  How do you breathe?

Oh! I don't know. I just do! I can breathe the water like we can both breathe in the air.

What's up?

Where would you most like to go exploring, Player?

→   The forests.

Oh, I'd love to do that too! What do you like about the forest?

→  They're dark and green.

Hmmm...I've been in kelp forests like that.

→  They're full of tiny critters!

That sounds like the ocean... except we have schools of fish.

→  Sometimes there are scary witches.

Oh, the ocean has those too.

→   The tundra.

That sounds so interesting! What do you like about the tundra?

→  It's nice and cold.

Brrr. I wonder if it's as cold as the trench near Atlantica.

→  There's so much snow.
I'd like to see that. It snows over the ocean sometimes.
My father took me very far north once, and there was ice on the water!
→  There are gorgeous mountains.
  We have mountains underwater, too!
But you swim down them instead of climb up them.
→   The desert.

I don't think I've heard of deserts. What do you like about them?

→  They're wide and open.

That sounds like the open ocean. There's room to swim in all directions.

→  They're warm and sunny.

That sounds nice. I like going to the surface to feel the sun.

→  There are lions!

I wonder if they're like the sea lions we have in the ocean. Sea lions can be very silly.

You look very happy.

Eric is wonderful, isn't he?

He has the warmest smile and the kindest heart. What do you think about when you think of Eric?

→  His smile.
Oh, I love it when he smiles! He looks so happy. Like he's about to laugh!
And he has a wonderful laugh, too. It really lets you know how much he cares.
→  His personality.
Me too! He loves exploring, just like me! And he's so understanding. When I couldn't talk, he was very patient.
I'm really looking forward to discovering all the things we have in common and what our differences are too.
You seem preoccupied.

What do you do when you feel homesick, Player?

→  Visit friends.
Visiting friends always cheers me up, too.
Especially my friend Flounder. He and I have gone on the most exciting adventures together.
→   Look at mementos.

Oh, that's smart. I spend so much time collecting human stuff, maybe I should get a few things to remind me of home.

player

Hmm. Maybe you could gather...

→  Seashells.
I do have some favorite seashells from when I was a little girl. I'd love to have those here to remind me of home.
What a wonderful idea, Player. Thank you!
→  Sheet music.
Oh, what a good idea! I'm sure I could find some of the concert music that Sebastian's written.
Then maybe I could get some friends here to sing it with me!
→  Fish.
You mean like in a bowl? I could never!
Fish don't belong in bowls, Player. They need to be free in the ocean.
→  Distraction.
You mean that if you don't think about home, you won't have time to miss it?
  I guess that makes sense.
You seem to be looking at the Well... [Added 1.3]

Player, does anyone ever drink from the Wishing Wells in the Valley?

→  Yes, I imagine some Villagers do.
Huh... I've never seen anyone do it.
But I'll try not to swim in the water that runs under them, just in case. I wouldn't want to startle anyone.
→  I don't know. Why?
Well, I always try to avoid them when surfacing in the Village, so I don't startle anyone.
I'll keep avoiding them... just in case.
→   I hope not. They're MAGIC Wells.
player

It'd be very dangerous.

player

And kind of weird. I use them to travel.

Oh, then it might be dangerous to swim in them too.

I'll keep on avoiding them then. Thank you, Player.

Ursula

Did you need anything? [Added 1.3]

Player, I have a very important question for you...

...

What color do you hold most dear?

→  Red.

How interesting. That's very good to know.

→  Blue.

How interesting. That's very good to know.

→   None of these. My favorite color is...

Go on...

→  Green.

How interesting. That's very good to know.

→  Purple.

Are you trying to flatter me? It's working.

→  Wait... why do you want to know?

So suspicious! Good. That's smart.

Knowing someone's favorite color can tell you a great deal about them.

→  What did my answer tell you about me?

Oh, I wouldn't dream of giving that away.

→  What's YOUR favorite color?

Sorry, angelfish, but I never give away my secrets.

→  Actually, my favorite color is plaid.

That's a pattern, angelfish. Not a color.

Do you have time to talk?

What is it?

Well, speak up! Mustn't lurk about, silent as a clam. It's rude. If you have something to ask me, ask!

→  How did you learn magic?
Oh, I've always had a natural talent for it. When I lived in Atlantica, I did research on magic and alchemy.
And after I was banished, I experimented on anyone-- I mean, anything I could find.
→  Why do you turn merpeople into those shriveled gray beings?
You're talking about my garden? The unfortunate souls who failed to meet the terms of our agreements? It's simple really.
I can't let word get out that my contracts are breakable. Besides, it makes me happy to see Triton's subjects writhe on my particular type of hook.
Something bothering you? [Added 1.3]

Player, just who I wanted to see. I'm in need of a sympathetic ear, dear.

→  What's wrong?

[continue to next line]

→  Are you all right?

[continue to next line]

→  What is it now?

[continue to next line]

I've had it up to here with a certain pointy-hatted, long-white-bearded, know-it-all wizard...

→  Why are you upset with Merlin?

[continue to next line]

→  I have no idea who you're talking about.
Do I have to spell it out for you?
  M-E-R-L-I-N.
  Merlin!

That windbag goody-two-shoes is always lecturing me on the proper uses of magic. As if I need lessons in magical etiquette!

Ugh, now I've got myself all in a lather. Just be sure to keep that pompous barnacle away from me.

What are you thinking about?

Oh, Player, it's you. I was just musing over the distant past. Did you know that I used to live in Atlantica? In the palace, in fact.

→   Why did you leave?

It wasn't by choice, you can be sure of that. King Triton, the tyrant, exiled me.

I was banished to waste away in the darkest part of the ocean.

→  That's terrible!
Isn't it? All the world turned against poor innocent me. And what did I do?
Practically nothing! I only gave the merfolk what they asked for. Is it my fault they didn't like the price?
→  Why?
Oh, it was over practically nothing! I only gave the merfolk what they asked for. Is it my fault they didn't like the price?
It was all an excuse. I know Triton was really frightened by my power.
→   Did you like it there?

Of course! It's a palace! Oh, I miss the comforts. The feasts, the festivals. Servants at my beck and call.

What would you miss if you were driven off and forced to live in the... well, I suppose for you it would be the woods?

→  Ice Cream.
Oh, I've heard of that. A cold, sugary treat, am I right?
I wonder if anyone here makes it in kelp flavor?
→  Television.

Hm. I have no idea what that is. Some sort of ludicrous human invention, I suppose.

→  Video games.

I have no idea what that is. But I do enjoy games. Especially when I get to make the rules.

→  Why do you look different?
You mean why am I not a waifish merperson with a dinky little green tail?
I look different because I AM different, dear.
  Not just different. Better!
  • What are you up to today? [Added 1.3]
What are you up to today? [Added 1.3]

I think I'll brew some potions today. Mustn't let my stocks get too depleted.

→  What kinds of potions?

TODOResponseToAnswerWhatKindsOfPotions

→  How do you do that?
Oh, I'll never share my secret recipes, PLAYER. That would be telling.
Hmm... now, what to make today?
→  ... Evil potions?
  Ha! Always so suspicious.
Don't worry, angelfish. What I make today will only be for me. Hmm... now, what do I need...

Magical ink. Oh, and moisturizer. Can't run out of that.

→  What do you use magical ink for?

TODOResponseToAnswerMagicalInkPurpose

→  What do you need moisturizer? You live underwater.

Oh, darling. There's a difference between my skin being moisturized and simply having moisture on it.

→  Can I have some?
No, that wouldn't be wise, dearie. The ingredients I use are safe for seafolk.
But they might be poisonous to humans.
And even if they weren't... you can't get something for nothing, you know.
What are you working on?

I need a new potion to attract customers. Player, what sort of magical potion do you think would be most in demand here?

→  Love Potion.

Oh, those tired old things. I've made a million of them. Though I suppose I could make one that's designed just for the Villagers here. They're not all merfolk, after all.

→  Beauty Potion.
That's called makeup, angelfish. Though I suppose I could add a little magic to some.
Maybe a cheek color that only blushes when you want it to. Hmm... that might be quite the seller.
→  Luck Potion.

Luck spells are tricky, but they do sell well. Not a bad idea.

  • What's going on? [Added 1.3]
What's going on? [Added 1.3]
player

Say, Ursula, there's something I've been wondering about.

player

How do you get around the Village so fast?

player

Sometimes I'll see you swimming in the ocean... and then a minute later you're in a pond in the Meadow.

→  It's impressive.

TODOResponseToAnswerImpressive

→  It's confusing.

[continue to next line]

→  It's freaking me out!

[continue to next line]

Oh dearie, there's an entire world beneath this Village that you know nothing of.

There are countless secret waterways and passages that let me be anywhere I want.

... And keep an eye on anyone I want.

You might rule the Village above the surface, but in the waterways, I'm the one with all the power.

→  I'm fine with sharing!

TODOResponseToAnswerSharingFine

→   XXXXXXXX
player

XXXXXXX

XXXXXX

→   You want power? Be ready for responsibility.
player

If there's a world beneath this Village, you better be ready to take care of it, just like I take care of the Valley above.

Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! Responsibility? You sound like that windbag, Merlin.

If power were nothing but a chore, then there wouldn't be so many trying to get it.

Don't be afraid to have a little fun, angelfish.

→   You better not try anything, Ursula. I'm watching you.
player

Dreamlight Valley is a place where we can all get along together in peace. Don't ruin that.

Is that a threat, angelfish?

... I love it! You're finally learning.

Don't worry. I have no interest in taking over your precious Valley...

...yet.

  • What's on your mind? [Added 1.3]
You seem lost in thought.

I came so CLOSE to becoming ruler of all the ocean!

I had the trident in my hand and the crown on my head!

Can you imagine the power?

→   I don't want that kind of power.

You're lying to yourself, dear. Domination over the seven seas.

If you tasted that power, you'd crave it as much as I do.

→  No way.

Oh, so certain, are we? I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Heh-heh-heh.

→  ... Maybe.

That's what I thought.

→  That sounds amazing.
  It was. It was!
And then that insipid little princess and her petty prince ruined it all.
But I'll get my revenge. Just you wait and see.
→  That's probably why you lost... You got distracted by power.
  Hmph. Well, you're not wrong.
I might have gotten a little carried away with the storm and the whirlpool.
But it was so exciting! I couldn't help myself.

Elsa

Do you have a question? [talking to people]

You spend a lot of time talking to people, don't you? I still find that difficult sometimes.

→   It's easy.

That's what Anna says. What makes it easy for you?

→  Trust.
Hmmm. That makes sense. I usually trust the person I'm talking to, so I shouldn't worry that they'll be upset if I say the wrong thing.
  Thank you, Player. That helps.
→  Indifference.
I guess it is easier to talk if you don't care about the people you're talking to.
Fortunately, I am seldom in that position.
→   Just say what you feel.

Well, I am getting better at understanding what I feel. I suppose that's a good step.

→  It is.

Thank you, Player. That helps.

→  If they don't like what you say, that's their problem.

I don't think that's a very responsible approach.

→  Just start.
Well, that's what Anna and Olaf do. They just start talking. It's almost like they jump off a cliff into words.
It's kind of impressive and...really brave.
Do you have a question? [opinion on Kristoff]

Player. What do you think of Kristoff?

→  He's a stand-up guy.

I'm glad you think so. I value your opinion. He seems to make Anna happy. So I like him.

→  He's a bit of a fixer-upper.
You think so? I guess he's a bit rough around the edges.
But he seems to make Anna happy. So I like him.
→  He smells like reindeer.
He does. I suppose that's something of a drawback.
But he seems to make Anna happy. So I like him.
Elsa... have you ever considered getting into fashion design?

What do you mean?

player

You've made so many beautiful dresses!

→  I love the shimmery blue dress you made.
Ha! I enjoyed that one. It was important to me to wear something new.
Though thinking back on what I did back then is embarrassing.
→  I like the white dress with the diamond pattern.

Thank you. I was very proud of that one.

→  The dresses you wear around Arendelle are so pretty.

Oh, I don't make those. Those are normal dresses. Other people sew them. I do commission them, though.

I enjoy thinking about the cut and shape of clothing, what it means and how it makes people feel.

When I was young, I used it to control myself. My gloves.

→  I'm glad you got rid of those.

I am too. They felt necessary at the time, but they were painful to wear. It's good to feel the breeze on my fingertips.

→  You wore those to keep Anna safe.

I did. I felt so guilty for so long. But I was a child. It's silly to blame a child for an accident.

→  Now you're older.

I am. And I know how to trust myself.

Tell me about your powers.

Ice and snow. They come in so many shapes and textures. Hard ice. Soft flurries. Frost. Blizzards.

They're all distinct. They feel different when I control them.

→  What does ice feel like?

Ice is sharp and clear. It's very hard... it never bends, but it can curve. I enjoy working with ice. It's precise.

→  What does snow feel like?

Snow is light and airy. It's made up of so many little flakes. That can make it harder to control. I'm keeping track of many parts.

→  Does it feel different to create life?
Yes. It's strange... it's like there's this warmth within the ice. But it's not normal warmth. It's cold warmth. And it's aware.
You can probably tell... it's hard to describe.
You know a lot about magic.

I've learned a lot about my powers in the last year. And about the Spirits of Nature. Would you like me to tell you about any of them?

→  Water.
The Water Spirit is also called the Water Nokk. It takes the form of a horse and has the power of the ocean.
The Nokk guards the Enchanted Forest fiercely and won't respect you unless you prove yourself worthy.
→  Fire.
The Fire Spirit appears as a tiny salamander who leaves a trail of fire as it runs. We call it Bruni.
Its flames can be frightening, but it only makes them in times of unrest of strife. Bruni likes it when I make snowflakes that it can eat.
→  Earth.
The Earth Giants can be dangerous if you disturb them.
They sleep most of the time, so you might mistake them for hills or mountains.
But if they wake, they stomp and throw boulders. So... it's best not to wake them.
→  Wind.
The Wind Spirit can be a playful, gentle breeze, or a swirling vortex. Olaf named it Gale.
My mother knew Gale when she was a young girl. Gale helped her save my father.
And Gale guided us at many points during our journey through the Enchanted Forest.
You look preoccupied. [Added 1.3]

Player. I've been thinking about Olaf.

→  What about him?

About what he represents.

→  He's a sweetheart.

I'm also very fond of him.

→  He's annoying.

He can be a little exasperating at times.

He was the first living being I made out of snow. I've started being more careful about making life.

→  That's smart.

I hope so. I just feel responsible for anything I create.

→  No! Make an army of tiny snowmen!
I kind of already did. I had a cold. And I accidentally made snowmen when I sneezed.
There are a lot of them. And I feel responsible for all of them. Probably no more living snowmen for a while.

  • Do you have a question?
Do you have a question?

Player, you're older, and thus all-knowing. Do you ever worry about the notion that nothing is permanent?

→   Yes.

Really? Tell me: How do you cope with the constant uncertainty of the ever-shifting landscape of life?

→  Friends.

TODOResponseToAnswerFriends

→  Ignoring it.

Huh... But does ignoring things make them go away? I fear there could be some unanticipated long-term effects.

→  What?

TODOResponseToAnswerWhat

→   No.

Really? Anna said the same thing. I can't wait until I'm ancient like both of you, so I don't have to worry about important things.

How old do you think I need to be for everything in the world to make sense?

→  At least five.

TODOResponseToAnswerAtLeastFive

→  Maybe forty?

TODOResponseToAnswerMaybeForty

→  Never.
  Oh. I hadn't anticipated that.
Oh well. I guess it's time to resign myself to the perpetual anxiety of existence!
→  What?
What indeed. And also "why." When faced with the staggering complexities and mysteries of life, both are very significant questions.
Oh, and we can't forget "who"! Who are we to ask such questions, really?
  • Do you want to know anything about me?
Do you want to know anything about me?

Player, what's your favorite season?

→  Winter.

TODOResponseToAnswerWinter

→  Summer.

What a coincidence! Me too! I love summer and sun and all things hot...

→   Summer.

  ... *gasp* What?!
  Oh, you're just joking. Phew.

Spring is so nice. I like to think of it as tiny-summer.

  ... *gasp* What?!
  Oh, you're just joking. Phew.
→   Fall.

Fall is so pretty! I like to think of it as early-winter.

Ooh! I like winter too! In fact, I was born in winter. It's such a good time to stay in and get cozy around a fire!

What do you like to do in winter?

→  Go sledding.

TODOResponseToAnswerGoSledding

→  Make snowmen.

TODOResponseToAnswerMakeSnowmen

→  Have a snowball fight.
Oh, you should really meet my friend Marshmallow!
He is excellent at throwing snowballs... and snow butts.
Got a question?

Player, what does the word "hyperbole" mean?

→  It means something is exaggerated.

Interesting. I love learning new things!

→  It's when a bole is very hyper.

Interesting. I love learning new things!

→  I don't know.
Wow. I thought there wasn't anything that you wouldn't know.
  That's okay, though.

Next question...

What does "defenestrate" mean?

→  It means to throw someone out a window.

You are so knowledgeable. Thank you, Player!

→  It means to defend a strate.

You are so knowledgeable. Thank you, Player!

→  No clue.
I understand. Even someone as wise as you can't know everything.
I'll ask some other Villagers. And hey, maybe later I can tell you all the new words I've learned.
  It'll be an eluci-date!
How's it going?

Player, have you heard any good stories lately?

What kind of story do you want to hear? [presumably should be Player, but is Olaf]

Hmm... How about something with a really scary villain?

player

Hmm. Okay. Once upon a time, there was...

→   ...a ferocious lion who yearned to be king.

  • gasp* Palace intrigue in the animal kingdom?

Tell me more, Player.

Okay... well... what happened next was... [presumably should be Player, but is Olaf]

...and they all lived happily ever after. [presumably should be Player, but is Olaf]

Wow, that story was thrilling, Player!

I hope I never run into a lion as devious as the one in that story.

Thanks for sharing! But I've gotta go. I've been learning lots of new words from Scar.

But Scar IS the lion in the story--

Oh, never mind. Forget it.

Wait a second... Scar is teaching you words? [presumably should be Player, but is Olaf]

Yeah, they just fly out of him whenever we talk. It's wonderful!

I've already learned "adieu," "quiver," "incessant," and "dismal"!

→   ...a vain and greedy mother who locked her daughter in a tower.

  • gasp* Family drama?

Tell me more, Player.

Okay... well... what happened next was... [presumably should be Player, but is Olaf]

...and they all lived happily ever after. [presumably should be Player, but is Olaf]

Wow, that story was thrilling, Player!

I hope I never run into a lady like the one in that story.

Thanks for sharing! But I've gotta go. I've been learning so many fun facts from Mother Gothel.

But Mother Gothel IS the lady in the story--

Oh, never mind. Forget it.

Wait a second... Mother Gothel is teaching you fun facts? [presumably should be Player, but is Olaf]

Uh-huh! For example, did you know that beauty is not in the eye of the beholder?

I'm still not sure what it means, but I'm sure she'll be happy to explain more.

→   ...a witch from under the sea who stole a mermaid's voice.

  • gasp* To lose your voice, how could that happen?!

Tell me more, Player.

Okay... well... what happened next was... [presumably should be Player, but is Olaf]

...and they all lived happily ever after. [presumably should be Player, but is Olaf]

Wow, that story was thrilling, Player!

I hope I never run into a sea witch. They sound terrifying.

Thanks for sharing! But I've gotta go. I've been learning lots of exciting new words from Ursula.

But Ursula IS the sea witch in the story--

Oh, never mind. Forget it.

Wait a second... Ursula is teach you new words? [presumably should be Player, but is Olaf]

Yep! I've already learned "potion," "legally binding," and "angelfish."

How's your day going? [stick collection]

Hi, Player. I spent the whole morning collecting all the sticks lying around the Peaceful Meadow.

So I am now the owner of an abundance of sticks!

How many sticks do you have, Olaf...? [presumably should be Player, but is Olaf]

One hundred and thirty-eight.

What do you think I should do with them?

→  Make some chairs.
What a wonderful idea! I'll get Kristoff to help me make them into chairs.
Then everyone in the Village will be able to sit down whenever they want!
→  Give yourself a hundred and thirty-eight arms.
  But where would they...
Oh! Hee-hee-hee! You are so funny, Player!
→  You collected all those sticks for no reason?
  No...
Collecting them was fun, and fun is one of my favorite reasons!
  • How's your day going? [facts]

Player, I've been learning so many new things.

Bye! [TODO - VERIFY]

Actually, that's all I learned today. And you listened to them all!

No one's ever done that before.

Thanks, Player!

  • Is there anything I need to know?
Is there anything I need to know?

Hi! I'm Olaf, and I like warm hugs!

→   Hi!
→  Hi!

Hi! [reprompt loop]

→  We can stop now.

Are you sure? Personally, I was having fun.

→  I know.

Of course you do. I just like to remind people in case they secretly need a hug.

→  Gotta go.

Bye!

  • Something bothering you?
Something bothering you?

Merlin is so smart! And he told me that he's a wizard.

Do you think that one day I could be a wizard?

→  I don't know if snowmen can be wizards.

True. Maybe I should ask Merlin. But...

→  You're already magical.
True. But that's not the same as being a wizard.
Maybe I should ask Merlin. But...
→  You could ask Merlin to teach you?

I could, but...

Yesterday, when I asked him my two-hundredth question, he said I should try doing my own research. And then he mumbled something about too many questions and turning into an encyclopedia.

Do you think I could turn into an actual encyclopedia if I ask too many questions?!

→  Absolutely.

TODOResponsetoAnswerAbsolutelyTurnIntoEncyclopedia

→  I think you misunderstood Merlin...

You might be right. I'll go ask him a question about it!

→  *gasp* You're turning into a book right now!
AM I? Where? Oh no! I just asked two more questions!
I'd better be quiet and hope I get less paper-y.
Something on your mind?

I've been thinking, Player. WALL-E and I have a lot in common. Do you agree?

player

I guess you do. After all...

→  ...you're both curious about new things.

That's true and very insightful. Oh, and don't forget...

→  ...you're both kind of tiny.
  Yes, but I'm slightly taller.
My stick hair gives me a bit of a height advantage. Oh, don't forget...
→  ...you both make a lot of interesting noises.

That's true. Though I do know more words. Oh, and don't forget...

...we were both brought to life by magic.

→  WALL-E's not magic. He's a robot.

But isn't technology really a kind of magic, Player?

→  I guess that's kind of true...

I'm glad you agree.

→  Does being so similar make you friends?
Well, it does help to have things in common.
But I think what makes us friends is that we're friends!
What are you up to?

Player! I am in need of your wisdom.

What's up? [presumably should be Player, but is Olaf]

I want to make a new friend.

And you have the most friends of anyone I know, so you must be an expert.

I was thinking maybe one of the rabbits in the Peaceful Meadow...

player

If you want to make friends with a rabbit in the Meadow, just make sure to...

→  ...run around with them. They like to play.

They like to play? *gasp* I like to play! We'll be a perfect match!

→  ...feed them carrots. They love carrots.
Great! I'll borrow a carrot from Kristoff!
... And I'll be sure to keep my nose away from them.
→  ...check back every day to see if the rabbit is around.
It might take a few visits before they really start to trust you. [presumably should be Player, but is Olaf]
Oh, the rabbits are shy. I understand.

Thank you for sharing your wisdom, friend.

What's up?

Hello, Player. I thought today I would sunbathe on Dazzle Beach.

→  That sounds fun!

I've always wanted to try it.

→  Are you sure that's a good idea?

Of course! Elsa's magic permafrost keeps me safe and cool.

→  Can snow get a tan?

I don't know! But I can't wait to find out!

Anna says sunbathing isn't something people do a lot of in Arendelle.

Question, though: How does one sunbathe?

→  You just sit in the sun.

Really? Well, I can do that!

→  It's important to have sunscreen.

I wonder if that's like my friend Oaken's sun balm. I'll have to find some!

→  You need a hat.

Really? I love hats! And I love doing things that need hats!

You look like you have a question...

Player, question for you... What do you think the sun is?

→   A star.

Okay...

But what are stars?

They're just big balls of gas. [presumably should be Player, but is Olaf]

→  A big ball of gas.

Fascinating!

→   What do YOU think the sun is?

Well... I've read that it's a star, but I'm still researching that.

I like to think the sun is... what makes summer happen! [presumably should be Player, but is Olaf]

Exactly. You get it.

You really are a fountain of knowledge! Tell me: How do you like to learn things?

→  Asking questions.

Hey, I do that too! I hope someday I'm as knowledgeable as you.

→  I talk to Merlin.

That's smart! He's very knowledgeable. And I really think he likes answering questions.

→  I listen.
Oh, I'm good at listening. Here. I'll show you...
  ...
  ...
You seem especially happy today.

You know what one of my favorite things is? Having favorite things!

  • gasp* Maybe I have favorite things I don't even know about.

Quick! Player, ask me what my favorite something is!

→  What's your favorite season?
  Oh, that's easy.
  Summer!
→  Who's your favorite person?
Um... El-- no... Ann-- no... I don't think I know!
Huh... Maybe people can't be favorites. That might not be how friendship works.
→  Who's your favorite reindeer?

That's easy. Sven! He tells the best bedtime stories. And he's so good at voices.

Let's do another! Ask me for another favorite thing.

→  What's your favorite animal?

[continue to next line]

→  What's your favorite book?

[continue to next line]

→  What's your favorite color?

[continue to next line]

Oh, that's a hard one. There are so many to choose from!

I'll have to think about this for a while...

Tangled

Mother Gothel

Anything you need?

Player, you have my attention. Shall I give you some motherly advice?

→  Okay!
Oh, it's so nice to have someone appreciate my kindness!
Unlike some ungrateful children who will remain unnamed.
→  You're not my mother.

True, but I give very good advice.

→   Your advice is kind of toxic.

Toxic! Oh, I'm wounded, Player!

I come to you offering nothing but support, and you insult me.

player
  • sigh* Fine. Give me some advice.

What would you like advice about, dear?

→  Life.
Well, life is a race, Player. If you're not winning, you're losing.
And most people are forever losing. You must make sure you win -- always.
→  Romance.
Oh my advice about romance is simple...
  Don't.
It's never worth it. You can only depend on yourself.
→  Reasons I shouldn't leave my tower.

I see. Now you're the one teasing me. I'll remember that.

Do you never tire of looking at yourself?

Ahh, I never tire of looking at my cheekbones. High cheekbones are universally attractive, and mine are particularly fine.

Good bone structure is the foundation of beauty.

→  That's kind of creepy.

Only for those who don't share it, dear.

→  I imagine you like that because it doesn't fade with age.

Very insightful. Now be a dear and never speak to me of age again.

→  Beauty comes from the inside.

People say that, but they never mean it.

I love taking care of the Valley. [Added 1.3]

Ah, Player... It's occurred to me that only you and I have the interests of this Valley at heart; don't you agree?

→  Yes, I do.

Finally, someone who listens to me!

→  What makes you think that?

Well, just look around...

→  I think everyone cares for the Valley in their own way.

Perhaps, but how many of them have proof to support their claims? Few or none, I'm sure.

They're all living in their grand Houses, only caring for themselves and their personal whims. Unlike me. Why, I've truly dedicated myself to tending to the Giant Willow.

→  I love the Giant Willow!
Then maybe YOU ought to live in it! Ha-ha! Only kidding, dear. Don't look so serious.
After all, I was the one who helped you grow that Giant Willow in the first place, you know.
→  Why do you look after it?
Because someone needs to! Plants are like children. They require constant care if you don't want them to grow up spoiled.
I was the one who helped you make sure the tree would grow strong and tall. So... of course, I stayed to watch over it.
→  You can always stop, you know...

Then there would be no one to care for the willow I helped you grow. No, Player. I must stay where I am.

And that is proof that only you and I care about what's best for our Valley.

Something bothering you?

Have you seen that absurd stall in the Meadow?

Run by... who is it... Doofy? The selection is so paltry.

→  What do you mean?

The wares are nothing but bland, common items.

→  I like Goofy's Stall.

And I'm sure it's fine if you need something common, such as apples.

→  Excuse me. His name is Goofy.

Whoever he is, he has an inexcusably sparse stock.

It's completely useless if you're in need of more... unique... ingredients.

→  Like what?
Well, as a purely theoretical example...
  A youth serum.
  Or parsnips.
→  Are you gonna brew evil potions?
Evil potions? Never. Perish the thought.
And don't ever confuse me with Ursula again.
→  You could talk to Goofy about it.
  I've spoken to that... individual.
I fear that whatever changes he attempts to make will be less than inspiring.
What's wrong?

Player, I'm feeling a bit run-down. Unappreciated. Alone.

Say something to make me feel better.

→  Your hair is so dark and glossy.

I've often thought it's one of my best features.

→  Your dress sense is on point.

It is, isn't it? This is velvet, you know.

→  You're capable and cunning.

Mmm. That's true, I am.

Go on. There must be more.

→  You're absolutely ruthless.
I'll assume you meant that as a compliment.
Ahh, I feel much better now. Thank you, dear.
→  You're a strong, independent woman.
  I am, aren't I?
Ahh, I feel much better now. Thank you, dear.
→  Your skin has very few wrinkles!
Correction, dear -- my skin has NO wrinkles.
Clearly, your eyesight leaves something to be desired.
  • You know so many things. [Added 1.3]
You know so many things. [Added 1.3]

Player, I feel that I must share a bit of my knowledge of the world, so you have a chance to survive out here on your own...

Now, you must have noticed the flowers growing around the Village. So beautiful and majestic... like me! Ha-ha-ha!

→  I love flowers!
Of course you do. After all, who doesn't?
You must remember that every part of the Valley is home to one or two specific types of flowers...
→  What about them?
Well, I know how children are, so I feel it needs to be said... Try not to eat them. It wouldn't be good for you. Also...
You must remember that every part of the Valley is home to one or two specific types of flowers...
→  Ugh, flowers...
Player, you really don't have an eye for beauty, do you?
Oh well, not everyone can appreciate the finer things.
Still, you should remember that every part of the Valley is home to one or two specific types of flowers...

[random response from the following options]

  • In the Plaza, you'll find Dandelions, a common, charmless weed that reminds me a little of you! Ha-ha, only kidding, dear. But also Penstemons of many colors.
  • If you want Rising Penstemons or Daisies, you'll have to go to the Meadow.
  • Some flowers even grow on the sand of Dazzle Beach. Hydrangeas and Sunflowers to be exact.
  • If ever you need Bell Flowers or Star Lilies, look under the trees in the Forest of Valor.
  • For example, if you visit my beloved Glade, you'll find all sorts of Marsh Milkweed. White, orange, purple, blue... Almost a rainbow of them.
  • TODOFrostedHeightsFlowers
  • Bromeliads and Houseleeks grow only on the Sunlit Plateau.
  • If you feel brave enough to explore the Forgotten Lands, you can gather Impatiens and Nasturtiums. Appropriately named flowers for that ugly place, if you ask me. [TODO - verify]
  • You look like you have a question.

Tell me, what do you think magic is, Player?

    →  Power.

Oh, you couldn't be more wrong

    →  Cheap trickery.

Ha! That skepticism will serve you well. But you're wrong.

    →  I'm not sure.

Well, at least you're willing to admit your ignorance.

    Magic is simply an advantage.

A tool to be utilized to meet one's goals.

    →  That's very cynical.

Perhaps to you. To me, it's merely practical.

    →  That's very practical.

Perhaps to you. To me, it's merely practical.

→  I believe there's more to magic than that.

And people will use that belief to take advantage of you.

    You look worried.

Player! Did I see a gray hair in my reflection? Look at my hair. Is any of it gray?!

    →   No gray hairs.

Oh, what a relief! One must be very careful about one's appearance, you know.

    →  You look great!

That's kind of you to say. Of course it's true, but it's still sweet of you to say it.

    →  How old are you?
Didn't anyone ever teach you that it's impolite to ask a woman's age?
And I know you'd never be impolite to me. Isn't that right, dear?
    →  I see a wrinkle.

    AHHHH! NO! MY BEAUTIFUL SKIN!

→   I see one gray hair.

Grrr... I must find Rapunzel quickly. If only she cared about her poor, dear mother.

    →  You're such a good mother.

I am, aren't I? Why ever would Rapunzel run away? She's terribly ungrateful.

→  You only want her hair.
What a horrid thing to say! I love my daughter.
It's the cruelty of the world that wants to take advantage of her gift.
    →   Lots of gray hairs!

No. NO! I'm becoming old and withered!

    →  You look fine.
Do I? Well. Perhaps for now.
But this is just the start. After the gray comes the wrinkles.
I will NOT lose my youthfulness!
→  There's nothing wrong with getting old.
Ha! You're almost as deluded as my daughter.
When you're old, the world discards you. You become... irrelevant. I WILL stay young, no matter the cost!
    →  Yep.

So cruel. When YOU are old, I hope YOU have an unfeeling reprobate who taunts you with it.

You seem to have a lot on your mind.

Player, good. Let's talk through a purely hypothetical situation.

If you were, say, tracking your wayward daughter through the forest...

How would you convince her to come home?

    →  Ask her nicely.
Yes, I'll just ask her politely to stop acting out and sit in her tower like a good girl.
You've obviously never met a teenager.
    →  Trick her.

Well, of course that's my instinct as well. I'm glad you agree, Player.

    →  Let her go.

Never! Rapunzel belongs with me, and NOTHING will ever change that.

    Got a question for me?

I've gotta know something, because when I tell Antonio about you, he's gonna ask.

    What's your favorite animal?

    →  Chigüiro.

    TODOResponseToChigüiro

    →  Jaguar.
Oh, good choice. Big cats are so majestic.
Antonio has a jaguar friend who gives him rides on its back.
Maybe don't try that with Scar, though.
    →  Butterfly.

    Aww. I like those too.

→  It's too hard to choose!

I understand that. Antonio can never pick a favorite either. He says they're all his friends.

    • I've got a question for you.
I've got a question for you.

For me? Great! What've you got?

    →  How's your abuela?

    TODOResponseToAnswerHowsAbuela

→  What do you do when you miss your family?
Hmm... Well, I guess I try to do something that reminds me of them.
When I'm missing my mamá, I try to cook some of the things she does. Like arepas.
They're not as good as Mamá's, but they definitely remind me of her.
And if I'm missing my cousin Antonio, I'll sit and listen to the birds or watch the animals.
→  Has Antonio found any new animals?
He's made a lot of new chigüiro friends lately.
They're great to have around. So chill.
    • Let's get to know one another better. Ask me anything.
Let's get to know one another better. Ask me anything.

Player, do you have any sisters?

    →   I do.

    And... do you get along?

    →  We do.
That's great. I've always gotten along with my sister Luisa.
Isabela on the other hand... We had a pretty rocky relationship for a long time, but we're doing really well now!
    →  Not really.

    XXXXXX

    →  Sometimes.

    XXXXXX

→   No, but I have other siblings.

    And... do you get along?

    →  Not really.
I understand. Siblings can be tough. They're always there, and they know just how to annoy you.
My sister Isabela and I had a rocky relationship for a while. But it's gotten a lot better.
    →  Sometimes.
That's pretty normal, I think. Siblings can be a lot.
My sister Isabela and I had a rocky relationship for a while. But it's gotten a lot better.
    →  I'm an only child.

Really? Wow! With a family as large as mine, that takes a lot for me to imagine.

    • Something on your mind?
    Something on your mind?

Player, how are you? Just checking in.

You do a lot around here, which kind of reminds me of my sister Luisa.

And people who take on a lot... well, sometimes they take on too much.

    →  I'm just getting started!
Really? Okay. As long as you're feeling good about it, I say go for it!
And hey, you know I'm always here if you need some help.
→  Maybe I should relax some more.
Yes! Do that! Lay back. Find a hammock. Enjoy the weather.
That's one thing my family's learned recently. It's important to notice when you're carrying way too much.
→  I'm cracking under all the pressure!!!
¡Ayyy! That's not good. And, in case you didn't know, your eyelid's twitching.
If you're overdoing it, you need to take some time for yourself.
    • Some weather we're having, huh? (when raining)
    Some weather we're having, huh?

When the weather's like this, I always think of my Tía Pepa.

    →  Why is that?

Tía Pepa's gift is that her moods can change the weather.

→  Is her gift being able to predict the weather?

    TODOResponseToAnswerIsHerGift

→  I bet her gift has to do with the weather.

    TODOResponsetoIBetHerGift

It's really easy to tell how she's feeling. You just have to look up!

What are you up to today?

Player, I'm thinking about adding some new embroidery to my skirt.

What do you think I should add?

    →  Another butterfly!
      Good call!
You can never have enough butterflies.
    →  Some flowers.
Flowers... huh? I've already got a few flowers, buuuut...
I could add some of the new flowers my sister Isa's growing! They're really wild and different.
→  Maybe an elaborate letter M?
An M? Like for Mirabel? Or Madrigal?
      Either way, I like it!
    What are your parents like?

Mamá and Papi? They're incredible. I love them SO much!

    →  What's your mom like?
Well, she really cares about people.
And her arepas are TO DIE FOR.
Or, well, I guess kind of the opposite of that. Her cooking heals people. That's her gift.
    →  What's your dad like?
He's amazing. Sure, he can be a bit clumsy. But he tries soooo hard.
And when it's really important, when I need him, he's always there for me.
Yeah. He's kind of the best.
→  You must miss them a lot.
I do. But I know I'll see them again soon.
If I ever get the chance, I'd love to show them the Valley!
Mamá would love to learn all the different foods made here, and Papi would be so excited to talk to everyone.
    • What's on your mind?
    What's on your mind?

Have I ever told you about my Tío Bruno?

    →  What's he like?

    TODOResponseToAnswerWhat'sBrunoLike

→  He can see the future, right?

    TODOResponseToAnswerBrunoSeeFuture

→  I thought you didn't talk about him?
Not anymore! I talk about him as much as I can.
I never want people to not talk about Bruno again.
