Daily Discussions
Penny for your thoughts, Jack?
Player! I need your help thinking up some new ideas for Halloween. |
You know, fresh insights. Topical errors. Contemporary creepiness. |
→ Vampires.
You're right! Vampires have been experiencing a sort of renaissance. |
Which is charming, as many of them were around for the Renaissance! |
But I do have colleagues back in Halloween Town who are vampires. |
So I feel that territory is well-covered. |
→ Haunted animatronics.
Hmm... Yes, I see the possibilities! |
Strangely human in effect, but we make the movements odd and jerky. Oh, and no eyes! That's always effective. |
I could practice moving like that. And perhaps create a costume! |
→ Going to the dentist.
Yes, I've heard that many humans are terrified of dentists. |
But that fear is not really the fun Halloween fright I'm looking for. |

PLAYER, would you like to join me in some screaming practice?
→ Let's do it!
[continue to next line]
→ No, thanks.

What are you up to, Jack? [Recruiting for Halloween]
Player, I've been considering recruiting new fright-makers for Halloween. |
Do any of our Valley friends strike you as particularly scary? |
→ Maybe Merlin?
Merlin? Oh, he's not scary at all! Though, I do think he has other Halloween potential. |
Consider the special effects he could make! |
player
Oh, so sort of a behind-the-scenes support staff kind of thing?
→ Definitely Ursula.
A witch? That's perfect! And she has such a majestic presence. |
Oh... but she'll likely want something in exchange for working with us. |
player
True, I guess you'd want someone who's in it for the joy of scaring people.
Exactly!
→ What about Goofy?
Oh, but he's so endearing! |
Though I am occasionally afraid he'll trip and hurt himself... |
...but that's not really the sort of fear I'm looking for. |
player
Well, good luck with the search!
What are you up to, Jack? [Practicing Shakespeare]
I am practicing my Shakespeare, Player. Would you like to hear a bit?
→ Not now, thanks.
Verily!
→ Sure!
I recite chilling lines from various plays. Ahem – let me begin... |
"I could tell a tale unfold whose lightest word Would harrow up thy soul, Freeze thy young blood, |
Make thy two eyes, like stars, start from their spheres Thy knotted and combined locks to part, And each particular hair to stand on end, Like quills upon the fearful porpentine!" |
→ Cool, but I gotta run now.
[continue to next line]
→ Keep going!
"Double, double toil and trouble, Fire burn and cauldron bubble. Fillet of a fenny snake, In the cauldron boil and bake. |
Eye of newt and toe of frog, Wool of bat and tongue of dog, Adder's fork and blind-worm's sting, Lizard's leg and owlet's wing!" |
→ OK, that's enough for me.
Fare thee well, Player!
→ More!
"Deep night, dark night, the silent of the night, |
The time when screech-owls cry and ban-dogs howl, |
And spirits walk and ghosts break up their graves!" |
→ This is too scary for me — I'm out.
Well, I do focus on the most chilling of Shakespeare's quotations.
→ I love it!
And now I shall customize one for our dear Valley... |
"Alas, poor Mickey! I knew him, Player: a fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy. |
Where be your gibes now? Your gambols? Your songs? Your flashes of merriment that were wont to set the table on a roar? |
Alas! Alas! |
→ That was wonderful!
Thank you! You were a lovely audience.
→ That was weird.
Well, Shakespeare's not for everyone.
→ Mickey's a ghost? Oh no!
Don't worry! It's only a story. |
Mickey's perfectly fine — you can check on him! |
What's it like being a skeleton person?
Player, I've been recently counting my blessings – it's something Minnie recommended as a way to start each day. And today, I thought about how terribly fun it is to be a skeleton!
I can hardly count the things I like about it.
→ You can take off your head!
Yes! Very useful for a quick fright. Or to be sure the back of my skull is properly polished.
→ You're so scary!
Why thank you! That is my most cultivated skill.
→ You're so agile!
I am! Part of it is practice, but part of it comes from being so light. |
Luckily, I don't bear the burden of muscles or organs. |

There's always candy.

Quests
With Sally
Reunion ( The Woven Bridge)
Sally! Dearest!
Oh Jack, I missed you so much.
And I you! My heart was emptier than a carved pumpkin.
But I'm back now. I hope we can spend some time together.
Don't you worry. I have so much to show you!
That sounds wonderful.
First Date ( Uncanny Romance)
Sally, dearest, I have a gift for you. We can use them to make you a new needle! |
Player said you were feeling unsure. So I assumed that was because of how often your seams get ripped... |
...or you lose your limbs, and if you didn't have your favorite needle, you'd... |
"How often"? Are you saying I'm clumsy, Jack?
Well, you must admit that you do end up in pieces rather frequently.
Yes... When I'm trying to help you. I jumped out of the tower just to bring you dinner.
That WAS you! Oh Sally, don't you see, when you have the new needle, your brave feats can continue without worry.
You want me to jump out of another tower for you?!
No, no, that's not what I meant! I just thought... Oh dear.
Second Date ( Uncanny Romance)
Sally, my dearest, I'm so sorry about before. I have the utmost respect for you and I would never want to hurt you.
Thank you, Jack. I suppose we're both just a little unsure around each other after being apart for so long.
You're right. And to celebrate our reunion, I've made you this.
Oh, Jack! This is the most romantic thing you've ever given me... That wail is so chilling.
Sally, I care for you so much. Remember how close we were when we used to sit on Spiral Hill and gaze up at the night sky?
I do, Jack. I remember just how that felt. Like we simply belonged together.
Shall we get this date started properly?
I'd like that very much.
With Fairy Godmother ( The Pumpkin King Returns)
I just love batwing pumpkins — what a wonderful name!
Oh, but nothing's more charming than a classic Autumn Gold pumpkin for enchantments!
Too true! I've used those in my parades quite often.
Do you have a favorite type of pumpkin, dear?
Well, I once created my own — it had scales and a dozen legs! It was positively frightful!
