Daily Discussions

How's the Halloween business going?
Jack Skellington.png Player, I've been ruminating on our traditional Halloween themes...
Jack Skellington.png Scary skeletons, Jack-o'-lanterns. Tell me -- do you have a favorite?
→  Witches.
Jack Skellington.png

Marvelous! Witches have such flexibility -- they can be creepy cacklers with a cauldron...

player

Or ominous silhouettes in front of the moon!

Jack Skellington.png

Exactly! Witches can fit into any Halloween motif. Why, they're practically indispensable.

→  Skeletons.
Jack Skellington.png How delightful! Or are you flattering me? You don't need to do that, you know.
Jack Skellington.png But I do love a good bone rattle. And no one can grin like a skeleton can!
→  Creepy clowns.
Jack Skellington.png They are very popular! I surmise it's the exaggerated human characteristics.
Jack Skellington.png You assume a clown is going to be silly and funny...
Jack Skellington.png But then – oh no! It doesn't have a face!
Penny for your thoughts, Jack?
Jack Skellington.png Player! I need your help thinking up some new ideas for Halloween.
Jack Skellington.png You know, fresh insights. Topical errors. Contemporary creepiness.
→  Vampires.
Jack Skellington.png You're right! Vampires have been experiencing a sort of renaissance.
Jack Skellington.png Which is charming, as many of them were around for the Renaissance!
Jack Skellington.png But I do have colleagues back in Halloween Town who are vampires.
Jack Skellington.png So I feel that territory is well-covered.
→  Haunted animatronics.
Jack Skellington.png Hmm... Yes, I see the possibilities!
Jack Skellington.png Strangely human in effect, but we make the movements odd and jerky. Oh, and no eyes! That's always effective.
Jack Skellington.png I could practice moving like that. And perhaps create a costume!
→  Going to the dentist.
Jack Skellington.png Yes, I've heard that many humans are terrified of dentists.
Jack Skellington.png But that fear is not really the fun Halloween fright I'm looking for.
  • Want to do something together?
Want to do something together?
Jack Skellington.png

PLAYER, would you like to join me in some screaming practice?

→   Let's do it!
Jack Skellington.png

[continue to next line]

→  No, thanks.
Jack Skellington.png

[continue to next line]

→   Screaming practice?!
Jack Skellington.png Yes, even if one has no vocal chords, one must keep one's voice in prime condition for blood curdling screams.
Jack Skellington.png Constant practice is essential. Care to join me?
→  Sure!
Jack Skellington.png

Marvelous! Now we'll start easy. A basic yelp.

→  Ahhhh!
Jack Skellington.png

[continue to next line]

→  Argh!
Jack Skellington.png

Very good! Try another yell, but longer this time.

→  Yip!
Jack Skellington.png Close, but that's a yip, not a yelp.
Jack Skellington.png Try another yell, but longer this time.
→  Ahhhhhhhh!
Jack Skellington.png

Now higher! A proper curdling scream!

→  AhhhhHHHhhHHHhhh!
Jack Skellington.png Oh, I like the ululation — a terrifying touch!
Jack Skellington.png Now higher! A proper curdling scream!
→  I think I'm done, thanks.
Jack Skellington.png

Until next time!

→  Eeeeeeeeee!
Jack Skellington.png

[continue to next line]

→  Eiiiiiiieeee!
Jack Skellington.png

That sent shivers down my spine — exquisitely done!

→  No, thanks.
Jack Skellington.png All right. Perhaps you'd like to simply observe...
Jack Skellington.png YYYEEAAAAARRRGHHHH!
What are you up to, Jack? [Recruiting for Halloween]
Jack Skellington.png Player, I've been considering recruiting new fright-makers for Halloween.
Jack Skellington.png Do any of our Valley friends strike you as particularly scary?
→  Maybe Merlin?
Jack Skellington.png Merlin? Oh, he's not scary at all! Though, I do think he has other Halloween potential.
Jack Skellington.png Consider the special effects he could make!
player

Oh, so sort of a behind-the-scenes support staff kind of thing?

→  Definitely Ursula.
Jack Skellington.png A witch? That's perfect! And she has such a majestic presence.
Jack Skellington.png Oh... but she'll likely want something in exchange for working with us.
player

True, I guess you'd want someone who's in it for the joy of scaring people.

Jack Skellington.png

Exactly!

→  What about Goofy?
Jack Skellington.png Oh, but he's so endearing!
Jack Skellington.png Though I am occasionally afraid he'll trip and hurt himself...
Jack Skellington.png ...but that's not really the sort of fear I'm looking for.
player

Fair!

player

Well, good luck with the search!

What are you up to, Jack? [Practicing Shakespeare]
Jack Skellington.png

I am practicing my Shakespeare, Player. Would you like to hear a bit?

→  Not now, thanks.
Jack Skellington.png

Verily!

→  Sure!
Jack Skellington.png I recite chilling lines from various plays. Ahem – let me begin...
Jack Skellington.png "I could tell a tale unfold whose lightest word
Would harrow up thy soul,
Freeze thy young blood,
Jack Skellington.png Make thy two eyes, like stars, start from their spheres
Thy knotted and combined locks to part,
And each particular hair to stand on end,
Like quills upon the fearful porpentine!"
→  Cool, but I gotta run now.
Jack Skellington.png

[continue to next line]

→  Keep going!
Jack Skellington.png "Double, double toil and trouble,
Fire burn and cauldron bubble.
Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the cauldron boil and bake.
Jack Skellington.png Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg and owlet's wing!"
→  OK, that's enough for me.
Jack Skellington.png

Fare thee well, Player!

→  More!
Jack Skellington.png "Deep night, dark night, the silent of the night,
Jack Skellington.png The time when screech-owls cry and ban-dogs howl,
Jack Skellington.png And spirits walk and ghosts break up their graves!"
→  This is too scary for me — I'm out.
Jack Skellington.png

Well, I do focus on the most chilling of Shakespeare's quotations.

→  I love it!
Jack Skellington.png And now I shall customize one for our dear Valley...
Jack Skellington.png "Alas, poor Mickey! I knew him, Player: a fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy.
Jack Skellington.png Where be your gibes now? Your gambols? Your songs? Your flashes of merriment that were wont to set the table on a roar?
Jack Skellington.png Alas! Alas!
→  That was wonderful!
Jack Skellington.png

Thank you! You were a lovely audience.

→  That was weird.
Jack Skellington.png

Well, Shakespeare's not for everyone.

→  Mickey's a ghost? Oh no!
Jack Skellington.png Don't worry! It's only a story.
Jack Skellington.png Mickey's perfectly fine — you can check on him!
What's it like being a skeleton person?
Jack Skellington.png

Player, I've been recently counting my blessings – it's something Minnie recommended as a way to start each day. And today, I thought about how terribly fun it is to be a skeleton!

Jack Skellington.png

I can hardly count the things I like about it.

→  You can take off your head!
Jack Skellington.png

Yes! Very useful for a quick fright. Or to be sure the back of my skull is properly polished.

→  You're so scary!
Jack Skellington.png

Why thank you! That is my most cultivated skill.

→  You're so agile!
Jack Skellington.png I am! Part of it is practice, but part of it comes from being so light.
Jack Skellington.png Luckily, I don't bear the burden of muscles or organs.
You seem kinda bored...
Jack Skellington.png PLAYER, tell me... Have you ever felt yourself wearily stuck in the same routine?
Jack Skellington.png Where everything seems dull and repetitive? What do you do?
→  I change things up!
Jack Skellington.png Of course! Sometimes you need something new, don't you? To give novel ideas and a fresh perspective!
Jack Skellington.png Though... ah... it is good to be prudent about what new things you take on.
→  I focus on what I like in my routine.
Jack Skellington.png That's wise. Sally would say that as well.
Jack Skellington.png One mustn't forget the value of all we already have in our life.
Jack Skellington.png Or in our undeath!
→  That's never happened to me.
Jack Skellington.png

Really? How content you must be.

You seem preoccupied.
Jack Skellington.png Player, I'm sure you've heard that I once tried my hand at running Christmas. Alas, it was quite the disaster.
Jack Skellington.png I made so many mistakes, but I'm wondering if there was one fundamental flaw...
Jack Skellington.png A central confusion. A care to all the calamity.
→  Maybe you didn't really understand Christmas.
Jack Skellington.png I think you're right. But oh how I wanted to! Oh how I tried to!
Jack Skellington.png My longing was so intense that I convinced myself I understood it.
Jack Skellington.png Yes. I believe that was the root of my foolishness.
→  Maybe you let your excitement run away from you.
Jack Skellington.png I certainly did. Enthusiasm is quite powerful.
Jack Skellington.png And usually it's good! It animates my frights! Keeps me inspired.
Jack Skellington.png But it can sometimes... have a life of its own.
→  I don't know enough to say.
Jack Skellington.png Such modesty will serve you well.
Jack Skellington.png It'll keep you from thinking you know more than you do.
Jack Skellington.png And from doing more than you ought. I could learn from you!
player

Does that mean you've learned your lesson?

Jack Skellington.png

Of course. Hmm... but say I hadn't learned my lesson. Would that SCARE you?

→  Yes!
Jack Skellington.png

Well, then perhaps... I've learned nothing at all! Ha-ha-ha!

→  No.
Jack Skellington.png

I see... I'll have to take that into consideration when designing future frights for you.

→  I'm not going to answer that.
Jack Skellington.png

How clever!

What's going on, Jack?
Jack Skellington.png Player, my search for new Halloween fright-makers continues!
Jack Skellington.png Do you have any new suggestions for me?
→  Stitch!
Jack Skellington.png Ah, yes! I've had my eye on that creature for quite some time.
Jack Skellington.png I'm sure he could craft some marvelous jump scares!
player
A chance to pursue mischief without raising his badness level?
player
I'm sure Stitch would love it!
→  Scar would be great.
Jack Skellington.png Now that cat has real potential to be terrifying!
Jack Skellington.png If only he weren't so cruel about it...
Jack Skellington.png Halloween is about scaring people, not hurting their feelings!
→  What about Remy?
Jack Skellington.png Indeed, some people are scared of rats.
Jack Skellington.png But I'm afraid that role might hurt Remy's feelings.
Jack Skellington.png Perhaps he could cater Halloween instead...
player

I'm sure he knows a ton of candy recipes!

What's the local cuisine like in Halloween Town?

Jack Skellington.png Well, there's Frog's Breath soup...
Jack Skellington.png And we do a lot with Deadly Nighshade!

Anything less... poisonous?

Jack Skellington.png

There's always candy.

Remy.png

Now, that I can make!

Quests

With Sally
Reunion (Menu Icon Quests.png The Woven Bridge)
Jack Skellington.png

Sally! Dearest!

Sally.png

Oh Jack, I missed you so much.

Jack Skellington.png

And I you! My heart was emptier than a carved pumpkin.

Sally.png

But I'm back now. I hope we can spend some time together.

Jack Skellington.png

Don't you worry. I have so much to show you!

Sally.png

That sounds wonderful.

First Date (Menu Icon Quests.png Uncanny Romance)
Jack Skellington.png Sally, dearest, I have a gift for you. We can use them to make you a new needle!
Jack Skellington.png Player said you were feeling unsure. So I assumed that was because of how often your seams get ripped...
Jack Skellington.png ...or you lose your limbs, and if you didn't have your favorite needle, you'd...
Sally.png

"How often"? Are you saying I'm clumsy, Jack?

Jack Skellington.png

Well, you must admit that you do end up in pieces rather frequently.

Sally.png

Yes... When I'm trying to help you. I jumped out of the tower just to bring you dinner.

Jack Skellington.png

That WAS you! Oh Sally, don't you see, when you have the new needle, your brave feats can continue without worry.

Sally.png

You want me to jump out of another tower for you?!

Jack Skellington.png

No, no, that's not what I meant! I just thought... Oh dear.

Second Date (Menu Icon Quests.png Uncanny Romance)
Jack Skellington.png

Sally, my dearest, I'm so sorry about before. I have the utmost respect for you and I would never want to hurt you.

Sally.png

Thank you, Jack. I suppose we're both just a little unsure around each other after being apart for so long.

Jack Skellington.png

You're right. And to celebrate our reunion, I've made you this.

Sally.png

Oh, Jack! This is the most romantic thing you've ever given me... That wail is so chilling.

Jack Skellington.png

Sally, I care for you so much. Remember how close we were when we used to sit on Spiral Hill and gaze up at the night sky?

Sally.png

I do, Jack. I remember just how that felt. Like we simply belonged together.

Jack Skellington.png

Shall we get this date started properly?

Sally.png

I'd like that very much.

With Fairy Godmother (Menu Icon Quests.png The Pumpkin King Returns)
Jack Skellington.png

I just love batwing pumpkins — what a wonderful name!

The Fairy Godmother.png

Oh, but nothing's more charming than a classic Autumn Gold pumpkin for enchantments!

Jack Skellington.png

Too true! I've used those in my parades quite often.

The Fairy Godmother.png

Do you have a favorite type of pumpkin, dear?

Jack Skellington.png

Well, I once created my own — it had scales and a dozen legs! It was positively frightful!
