— Oswald
Oswald is a character from several animated short films under the series "Oswald the Lucky Rabbit" released from 1927 to 1938, and is notable as one of Walt Disney's early creations prior to creating Mickey Mouse. He is encountered in the in Ancient's Landing on Eternity Isle, in the Ancient Ruins.
Unlocking Oswald requires purchasing the paid expansion A Rift in Time. He will join the village after completing the the quest The Spark of Imagination.
His home is a old-time movie theater unlocked during the friendship quest Oswald's Many Dimensions. Once unlocked, he will be added to the Eternity Isle Characters Collection.
Unlocking
The chain of quests to unlock Oswald begins with the quest The Sunken Ruins on Eternity Isle. This quest becomes available after completing the final quest in "A Rift in Time: Act I, Your Eternal Reward. Unlocking the quest also requires completing the initial friendship quests for EVE (A New Directive), Gaston (Center of Attention), and Rapunzel (The Housewarming).
After the prerequisite quests have been completed, Merlin will begin the quest The Sunken Ruins, and ask the player to collect materials using the Royal Hourglass to unlock the Ancient Ruins. Inside the Ruins there are three chambers, which require EVE, Gaston, and Rapunzel to unlock.
Completing the three quests, Does Not Compute, Hero Pose, and All the Right Notes will advance the Villagers to the Ancient Ruins, then completing the quest A Bit of Help from Your Friends will unlock each of the three chambers and open the lower ruins.
After completing A Bit of Help from Your Friends and descending below Oswald will be encountered. He will assist the player through the quest The Spark of Imagination, and after completing that quest will be unlocked.
His initial friendship quest Oswald's Many Dimensions unlocks Oswald's House.

The sky's so cool and smooth, the grass looks like it's ALIVE... |

Yep, it looks just like water feels!
→ Well, the grass IS alive.

If ya say so. But it really LOOKS alive now.

Ain't you seein' this? It's everywhere!

Neat! |
What's going on, Oswald? (Before Oswald's Many Dimensions)
"Your silent rabbit friend glances at you... Could that be a challenge in his mischievous eyes?!" |
"He gestures solemnly with one hand, while the other forms a fist, then stretches the hand out flat, and finally sticks two fingers out. What could he be trying to say?" |
→ Uhhh, what now?
"Oswald repeats the gesture. But this time with both hands, each hand making a different shape."
player
Oooohhh, you want to play rock-paper-scissors!
→ Are you making hand shadows?

Okay, I'll pick...

player
Sorry Oswald, I win this round!
→ Play again?
"Oswald nods furiously. He's not out yet!" |
"He begins to smirk as he readies his hand." |
player
Okay, I'll pick...
→ Rock!
"When his hand opens up, it has somehow twisted into... a cartoon stick of dynamite?!"
player
Hey, no fair – we didn't discuss adding dynamite!
"Oswald gives a big grin and shrugs – that scamp!"
player
Fine, you get this round...

[Same as previous response]

"When his hand opens up, it has somehow twisted into... a cartoon stick of dynamite?!"
player
Good thing I picked scissors – I snip the dynamite fuse!
"Oswald clutches his face in mock shock! But he quickly extends a hand to shake yours in congratulations for winning."
→ I think that's enough for me today.
"Oswald heaves an exaggerated sigh and waves goodbye."
Lookin' feisty! (Before Oswald's Many Dimensions)
"Oswald grins and begins to do a soft-shoe shuffle to put the best hoofer to shame!"
player

You want to dance?

player
All right, show me some moves!
→ Do you know hip-hop dance?
"Oswald seems a little stumped until an idea exclamation point appears over his head!" |
"Never one to let anatomy hold him back, Oswald plucks off a leg and then attaches it at a right angle from his hip." |
"He then begins to hop around on his hip-leg, looking at you with a wry grin as if asking, "This is what you meant, right?"" |
→ Close enough!
"Oswald jumps for joy, forgetting his missing leg. He somersaults, reattaches his leg where it belongs, and bounces up with a smile. Ta-da!"
→ Points for effort.
"Oswald laughs and gives you a little wink." |
"Was he winding you up this whole time? Oswald sure isn't telling..." |
→ Oh, wow, no...
"With the utmost disappointment in his eyes, the little rabbit gives you a brave smile."
→ Sorry, kinda busy at the moment.

Heya, Merlin! Wanna hear a joke?
Why, I suppose I could take a momentary pause from my research...
What do you call a pony with a sore throat?
Ah, well that would be a prime example of Equus Pharyngitis, no?
Uhh... I was gonna say: "a little horse."
But I'm sure your thing's funny, too... if you're a bookworm.

Heihei...? OH! You told me about him. Your little rooster friend, right?
Yep. I worry about him. He's not exactly... self-sufficient.
Well, I happen to have loads of experience with poultry! When I worked on a farm, I ran a dating service for chickens.
You did? How did that work?
Not so good. I struggled to make hens meet. Oh-hoo-hoo!

Trivia
- According to Merlin, Oswald seems to be from a past version of Dreamlight Valley that belonged to someone else, before any of the current Villagers arrived.
- In-game, Oswald is voiced by David Errigo Jr., reprising his role from Disney Speedstorm. Errigo's performance as Oswald is vastly different from Oswald's last major speaking appearance, the Epic Mickey franchise, performed there by Frank Welker.
