— The Forgotten
The Forgotten is a character original to Disney Dreamlight Valley, is the main antagonist of Act 1 of the game's story, and is responsible for the Forgetting that has darkened the Valley and erased the Villagers' memories.
Throughout the quests in the first act of the game's story the player will uncover more about the history of The Forgotten, and uncover how it relates to the Forgetting.
Its appearance reflects the one from the player, and it will change every time the player updates its own appearance, so they both match. It has its own clothing with a dark purple and black glowing animation, a custom purple skin tone and green glowing eyes though. Its voice sounds deep and has some kind of echo effect.
Unlocking
When beginning the story quest
The Dark Castle a portal will be opened to the Dark Castle. After confronting The Forgotten there and completing the quest
The Remembering, it'll return with the player to the Valley and be welcomed by the other Villagers.
After this event, the portal will remain open in the Plaza - so the player can return to the Dark Castle at any time, and the Forgotten will also visit the Valley.
After completing the quest Poetic License, 30 minutes later a quest will appear A Forgotten Name. After completing this quest The Forgotten will join as a Villager, they will be available to 'hang out', their friendship rewards will become available to earn, and they can also be assigned a new name.
Schedule
- Main article: Time.
Backstory
The Forgotten is responsible for the Forgetting, removing the protective orbs from the pillars throughout the Valley, and the appearance of the night thorns. It is angry with the player and blames the player for leaving it behind in Dreamlight Valley years before.
First revealed to the player by Ursula in the quest
With Great Power..., she explains that the Forgetting effecting Dreamlight Valley didn't just happen, it was caused by a being - named The Forgotten.
Soon after, the player will find Donald lost in a Dark Grove, having traveled through a dark portal. He'll explain he chased a "Dark Entity" inside the portal to recover the Orb of Courage, but got lost in the fog. He also describes seeing a "dark castle" through the trees.
Later during the quest
Nature & Nurture, after restoring the river in Sunlit Plateau the player will encounter The Forgotten - a dark shadow version of the player wearing an Onyx Crown and wings. After chasing the Forgotten through a dark portal, it'll see them enter the Dark Castle.
The player will return to Merlin and explain what they've seen, & he'll suggest the Forgotten is a splinter of themselves that stayed behind when they left the Valley long ago.
Later in the story, during the quest
The Great Blizzard, the player will unlock a Secret Chamber (with Olaf inside). They'll use Elsa's water magic to unlock hidden memories which reveal the Forgotten taking the protective orb from the pillar in Frosted Heights. Uncovering more memories in the Secret Chamber shows that the chamber belonged to the Forgotten and it'd been experimenting with Dark Magic inside.
The quest
Miracles Take Time lets the player act as the Forgotten to play out past memories, replaying events that led up to the Forgetting, and giving more context to the motivations of the Forgotten and those around it. After replaying the memories, the Forgotten will appear and steal away with the Orb of Remembrance.
After this, during the quest
The Forgotten Relics, dark rifts begin to appear all around the Valley, forcing the player to locate artifacts the Forgotten had left behind imbued with their dark magic. After gathering these artifacts, Merlin is able to use this magic to open a portal to the Dark Castle.
Finally, in the quest
The Dark Castle, the player travels through the Forgotten's lair for a final confrontation to put a stop to the dark rifts threatening the Valley. After this confrontation, and the quest
The Remembered, the Forgotten and the player join forces to close the rifts and The Forgotten will return to Dreamlight Valley where it is welcomed by the other Villagers.

Daily Discussions
Are you feeling okay?
I don't know. Sometimes I have so many feelings at once, but I don't know what they are.
→ It's fine to have complicated emotions.
player
Sometimes we feel more than one way at once.
UGH! I just wish things were simpler.
→ It's normal to not be able to express your emotions sometimes.
XXXXXX
→ I can give you some time alone to think about that.
XXXXXX
Do you have a question for me?
Do you ever feel like no matter how hard you try, you can't find the right words to say how you feel?
→ All the time.
player
Feelings are some of the biggest, scariest, and most complicated things in the world. It's hard to put them into words.
Thank you! UGH! It's so tough.
→ Sometimes.
XXXXXX
→ Never.

XXXXXX
So what do you do when you have a feeling that's all tangled up and you don't know what word to use?
→ I make up a whole new word.
Oh. That's a good idea. |
I think I'll call this emotion... |
..."bramblesnorp." |
→ I combine words.
XXXXXX
→ I make a noise to express my inexpressible emotion.
XXXXXX
Thanks, Player. I feel... weirdly better?
Have you tried making any new friends?
No, not really. I just... prefer spending time alone.
→ You don't know how, do you?
- sigh* Yeah... I don't know where to start. Everyone else just seems to have friends and I... don't.
→ You haven't tried, have you?
XXXXXX
→ You don't know who to approach, do you?

XXXXXX
player
That's okay. You just need some practice. Maybe try...
→ ...saying "hello" to more people.
That doesn't sound TOO terrible. I'll try that. Maybe.
→ ...asking people how their day is going.
XXXXXX
→ ...giving people small gifts.
XXXXXX
Tell me more about you.
Why?
player
I'm just trying to get to know you better.
I'm kidding. Mostly. What do you want to know?
→ What would you bring to a deserted island?
If I was there, it wouldn't be a deserted island, would it?
→ That was snarky.
You're welcome.
→ Good answer.
XXXXXX
→ That was informative.
XXXXXX

XXXXXX

→ What three words describe you best?
XXXXXX
What's your favorite thing to do in the Valley?
I haven't really figured that out yet.
player
You don't need a role. You can do whatever you want now.
Huh. What do you think I should do?
→ You could try making more friends.
But that sounds like so much work.
→ You could go fishing and exploring.
[same as previous answer]
→ You could try crafting and cooking.
XXXXXX
Think I'll just keep skulking mysteriously... for now.
What's on your mind?
Do you think all the Villagers are happy here, Player?
player
I believe so. Why? Do you think someone isn't happy?
Maybe one person...
→ Do you mean Donald? He loses his temper sometimes but then gets over it quickly.
Yeah, that's who I meant. Thanks for clearing that up.
→ Do you mean Scar? I don't think he does "happy."
XXXXXX
→ Do you mean you? You can always talk to me.
XXXXXX
What part of the Valley do you like best?
The Forgotten Lands. It resonates with my soul.
Where do YOU like to hang out?
→ My favorites are bright, like Dazzle Beach and the Sunlit Plateau.
Suit yourself. Those are way too sunny for me.
→ I like the Forgotten Lands best too.
XXXXXX
→ I prefer rugged places like the Forest of Valor and Frosted Heights.
XXXXXX
You seem a little confused.
Player, do you ever feel like... like... ugh, I dunno... |
... like nobody will ever really like you because you're too weird? |
→ All the time.
Huh? Really...? But EVERYBODY seems to like you.
player
Maybe. But that doesn't mean I don't get anxious sometimes.
Great. That almost makes me feel worse. If YOU feel like that... then what hope is there for a weirdo like me?
→ Sometimes.
Huh? Really...? But EVERYBODY seems to like you.
player
Maybe. But that doesn't mean I don't get anxious sometimes.
Great. That almost makes me feel worse. If YOU feel like that... then what hope is there for a weirdo like me?
→ Never!
Yeah. That figures. Everybody seems to like you. |
What hope is there for a weirdo like me? |
→ Everybody's a little bit weird in their own way.
[continue to next line]
→ What makes you weird is what makes you special.
[continue to next line]
→ If you're too weird for somebody... that's their problem.
player
[continue to next line]
player
Besides, what even is so-called "normal"? Trust me. Normal is overrated. |
player
You just gotta find the people who appreciate your particular kind of weirdness. |
... Maybe you're right. |
Talking about that... actually made me feel kind of better. ... Weird. |
You look a little worried.
Do you think any of the Villagers are still mad at me because of the whole... almost destroying the universe thing?
→ No way!
player
Everyone in Dreamlight Valley knows that you didn't mean to do that. Trust me.
→ They'll forgive you in time.
player
Some of the Villagers might still be a little on edge. But they'll come around.
→ You just have to show that you're really sorry.
player
The more you visit the Village, the more everyone will see that you didn't mean to hurt anyone.
You're sure...?
player
You made mistakes... and that's okay. Everyone messes up sometimes.
Really...?
player
Sure. It doesn't always feel good to mess up, but it's the best way to learn.
Learn what...? How to mess up even more?
player
How to do better next time. If we were always perfect, we could never grow.
Huh... that's true... I guess...
You look sort of preoccupied.
Hey, Player... I've only ever known Dreamlight Valley and the Dark Castle. |
What's it like out there...? You know... the grown-up world and all that junk. |
→ Amazing! You can eat as much ice cream as you want.
player
There's only one problem. You can eat all the ice cream you want... but you know that you probably shouldn't.
Hm... |
Well, I don't think I'll let that stop me. |
→ Terrible! There's less time for just enjoying yourself.
player
When you're a kid, hours just go by without having to worry about anything. Growing up means having homework pretty much all the time.
That sounds awful. |
Guess I'm lucky I don't have to deal with all that. |
→ It's not as different from being a kid as you might think.
player
A lot of people might look like adults, but they feel like kids inside. They just get better at hiding it.
I guess things will always be scary and confusing, no matter how old you get.
player
Yeah. But you get a lot better at handling it. Hopefully...

A lot of the Villagers here seem to favor bright colors?

Yeah, it can take some getting used to.

I like it! It feels like I can truly stand out!

Oh... that's interesting. I'll have to consider that.
